Galway - quadruple travails part 2

Brendan Oā€™Donnell country; it was always on my mind driving from Woodford to Whitegate

Any town that produces a man like Cyril canā€™t be too bad.

Would Cyril drink an :owl: hew hints?

Teetotal I believe

Nah connemara would be more western country, sweeping landscapes and long held grudges.

Iā€™m trying to think of a movie equivalent for Woodford and unfortunately Deliverance fits the bill more than most. There was an old action film called southern comfort where some army boys run afoul of a few redneck cajuns in Louisiana. That would be a decent comparison also. Crossing the border rachets it up a notch as you enter the fiefdom of Brendan O Donnell, GerLock and Lauren Guilfoyle.

Gary Sice won a club league title this week. Probably the nicest sportsperson Iā€™ve ever met and him flooring that soft cunt Jamie Clarke sparked life back into Galway football back in 2013.

2013 was probably as low as it got for Galway football. Mayo came to Salthill and walked all over them to the tune of a 17 point win. Painful memories.

Nearly lost to Waterford, at home with Meehan and Army on the pitch iirc.

John Oā€™Mahony, Rest in Peace.

Always a legend in Leitrim.

RIP

Equally so in Galway, the mastermind behind it all. Iā€™m stunned by his passing, donā€™t know if he was ill or what.

I knew he was ill alright. But didnā€™t think he was that bad.

A giant in GAA terms - his last spell at Mayo the only blot on his copybook.

He very nearly pulled it off with them too. A pure gentleman. Iā€™m gutted.

Ah thatā€™s very sad. The Galways will have to do it for him now

Ah Jaysus, RIP. Pat Comerā€™s documentary on that 1998 winning side remains one of the best sports docs Iā€™ve ever seen. Oā€™Mahony came across really well in it.

Very sad. Only a young man really.

There was some buzz around Galway football those years. And winning Connacht with Leitrim also a monumental achievement.

RIP.
