Galway - quadruple travails part 2

yeah, he’s out for foreseeable. They’ve no bit of cut upfront at all.

I’ve been tipping loughrea for years. I’ll be right eventually.

He’s not half as fond of himself as skehill either.

Cyril is still numero wan.

I could have picked this up wrong, but I heard something yesterday about a club game in Galway this weekend where a line ball was changed to a free in the last minute and the resulting score saw a team into relegation playoffs instead of progressing to the knockouts? Anyone?

Sars v Oranmore I think. Sars got a last minute goal from the incorrect decision

Forget who Loughrea were playing but whoever it was, needed to avoid defeat to avoid a relegation play off. Loughrea lino put the flag up for a line ball but play continued resulting in a goal for Loughrea. Opposition players went to the ref saying it was a line ball. Ref goes over and asks him had he the flag up? ‘Nope’.

What were Brady’s credentials as a player?

I dont remember him much. If he was half as good to hurl as he is to talk, he must have been something else.

As @Fat_Pox said, that cut at the County Board over Donoghue about five seconds into last weeks podcasht was absolutely BOX OFFICE.

Very good player by all accounts. Hardy out for a handy sized man.

Played minor, 21 and senior in both codes. Walked the walk so he can talk the talk.

He got a 48 week ban for playing illegally in England. Got a bad injury just when he came back.

Kev was on an u-21 team that beat Gooch’s Kerry iirc

And Alan Brogan in the final. Completely forgot that. Joe Bergin looked like our next best thing in those days.

An excellent underage career in both codes. He transferred from Sylane to Castlegar didn’t he shortly after playing county minor? He had to drive past Turloughmore every day to do that training trip. I get the impression Castlegar isn’t the easiest club to transfer into despite the many lads who have done it, and he never kicked on right. Could have that all wrong though.

My hazy memories were that he was your atypical Galway hurler. Brilliant prospect that didn’t deliver at senior. There were so many of these that it would be very difficult to pin any blame on the players themselves.

Would have been still around during the Loughnane/McIntyre eras or had he it all done by then?

Was it 2002 they beat Dublin in fitba? Thought he was just a bit younger than Damian Hayes, Richie Murray.

Think he was on the same minor side as Ger Farragher. But could be wrong on that.

Very good underage player, size probably went against him at senior. But my memory of him was that he was tough out.

Who was he playing for paddy, and, more importantly, who grassed him up??

Nothing too hazy there at all. You’re on the button.

Glory at minor and U21 fogged the vision for development of players and many good young lads were flogged in the quest of this glory.
