Galway - quadruple travails part 2

They didn’t use him anyway. Think he got a few minutes off the bench for NUIG midweek. That was his first football since the Division 2 league final last April. Had surgery on an abductor injury so he missed out on both Galway and Moycullen’s runs last year.

If he was fit to play Tuesday night for NUIG he was surely fit to do something Sunday when the game was there to be won.

Like Ballygunner famously letting Dessie Hutchinson sit on the bench for the full game vs Ballyhale in 2019.

I’d say the lads were desperate to get out of moycullen in fairness. Understandably.

Fuck the senior club championships

Amazing really that you have even more posts than me in the Club Championship Thread.

I’m trying to spread the gospel. Club Championship within a county is box office.

As per TFK etiquette, County Championship discussion tends to take place in a County’s own individual thread while the Provincial and All Ireland discussion takes place in the Club Championship thread.

This is not the case. All Club Championship discussion is welcome in the Club Championship thread.

To bring back an oldie but a goldie, you are badly exposed here.

62.5% of posts on the Club Championship Thread have been posted since November 1st when pretty much every County Championship was done.

You are talking nonsense yet again.

Not at all. I’ve set up quite a few of the threads, and they are always set up at the start of the County Club Championships. You’re not fooling anyone here and its pretty embarrassing to try.

Despite being set up in February, the Club Championship thread got very little traction until November when the very serious business of the Provincial and All Ireland Club Championship’s clicked into gear.

There has always been plenty of traction in the Club Championships thread. I suppose the reason this was because of the split season. The bastards.

This is a quite lovely sidebar gents :clap::clap:

As an aside, it always jars just a little when you get the club and board men in the papers lauding the split season mainly because revenue is up. I think it’s the correct thing to do but not for financial reasons with a few caveats
1 Like Pavlov’s dog, my own natural gut instinct needs to be retrained to peaking earlier in the year in order to raise the excitement levels again. It’s like moving the Christmas to October. No obvious harm, but it’ll take a while to get used to.
2. The whole point of the split season would be to give the club’s an actual in and off season and a chance to play on decent pitches. This is diluted if it runs through into January. Finals should be early December and no more about it.
3 There’s even more of a drawback if the best IC and club players are now getting flogged without a rest the whole year. Some of these early competitions are plain silly unless they are only to give squad players a run out, and even then it’s not fair to use them as a yardstick for those players.
4. Whilst I enjoy the laygue a lot, I’d be prepared to take the personal hit and scrap it or modify it to make it actually count for something. The greatest dynasty of all time under kody never gave much thought to it, nor do whiney and Enoch. Enough said.
5. I’m going stir clane mad.

The same Cody & Kilkenny that did five league/AI doubles? I’m not sure what the league would cost you personally one way or t’other either

While you’re right in a way for hurling at the top table, for the rest, and for the football, the league is all some counties realistically have to play for.

It’d cost me my enjoyment of the laygue. Kody always wanted to win every game, that’s the way he is wired up, but it was an irrelevance to him other than that and as a springboard to the championship. He had the advantage of a more modern type attitude of lads staying relatively fit and not straying off piste through the winter, unlike most every other county. A bit like Armstrong and Jan Ulrich, where Ulrich would start the tour half a stone overweight and try and knock it off in the first week, by which stage lance had a comfortable head start.

Every county should have something to play for and a meaningful number of exciting games for the players, but I don’t think the league is optimal for this.

I’m not sure what would be outside of a go games blitz.
