Iām James Heffernan the Labour Partys General Election Candidate in County Limerick. Iām currently a Councillor representing the people of the Kilmallock Area on Limerick County Council.
I live in Kilfinane and studied History, Politics Social Studies and Sociology at UL. During that time I studied in the University of Lapland in northern Finland and was very impressed with how their society, with a popuation similar to ours, operated with fairness and equality at its heart.
I then studied in London where I qualified as a school teacher and worked in the inner city borough of Tower Hamlets in East London.
I spent a number of months in South America, most of it in Bolivia where i witnessed huge social changes taking place. During my travels I met and spoke with many fellow Irish people who were travelling like me. We shared the same concerns about the direction our country was taking and how there seemed to be widespread corruption and cronyism with little investment in the people and the future.
It was during my time in Australia that the 2007 General Election happened. I decided that that I wanted to return to Ireland and stand in the Limerick West constituency on behalf of the Labour Party. I gave the committment then that i would be in it for the long haul and I stood in the last local elections topping the poll in the Kilmallock Area. I believe that a labour seat in Limerick is achievable and that now is the time for the Labour Party to lead the next government.
At least this kid still has some idealism left, the Oireachtas will knock that out of him if he gets there Iād say!
I know his sister, lovely woman. I donāt know Beefy at all but his stellar reputation preceeds him. Iām looking for a big vote for James in Meanus.
The Nordic Model is where itās at. Better education system. Better health system. World leaders in innovative industry and sustained high standards of living as a result. We wisely opted for the Thatcher model instead and itās gone swimmingly.
70 seats is just about do-able for FG. Talk about any more than that is pure scaremongering. Theyāll have two government options after that. Coalition with Labour. Or Sinn Fein v

I am giving this kid a chance. I am particularly impressed with his attendance at the University of Lapland. Has John Dillon ever been to Scandanavia?

Think this FG for an overall majority is scare mongering. They had the same in the Iām backing Bertie campaign in 2002.
Havenāt read into the detail but this mortgage relief for negative equity nightmares e.g.the likes of Rocko, Mac, Alison O Riordan sickens me. Bit like the compo for Eircom shareholders idea they had back in the day.
Are FG any more conservative than the other mainstream parties? Ireland is a conservative country, naturally mainstream political parties are representative of the electorate.
Think youāre confusing me selling a gaff with me buying one there mate. Thanks for the continued flattering interest in my affairs.
On the topic Iād be in favour of fixing mortgage rates for everyone. The mortgage market is hugely artificial now anyway thanks to government intervention so the competition on rates is false. Asking the taxpayer to pay for the bad decisions of the banks is ridiculous. Asking mortgage holders to prop them up further by paying an interest premium makes no sense. That money would be far better in the general economy. Deposit rates are stupidly high too.
