Disastrous vote splitting for Fine Gael.

That changes my projection to FG 51, FF 45. Could yet be 50 v 45 or even 49 v 45 if Mythen wins Wexford.

The Sidney brand has been redeemed the last few days

John Lyons should see SF over the line?

A renaissance.

Constituencies currently counting: 0.

What’s the largest margin ever turned over on a recount Sid? This a frivolous waste of time by this egotistical bitch. She’s never going to be elected, when is the penny going to drop with her?

That’s he. A very good chap by all accounts and comes across as very clued in and capable. I’m disappointed for Ireland.

RTE have just updated the figures after O’Callaghan’s transfers that led to the recount:

Haughey 11956 (+297 - short of quota)
Mitchell 8596 (+210)
O’Riordain 8547 (+1003)
McGrath 8069 (+716)
Lyons 7760 (+551)
Broughan 7735 (+732)
Power 7668 (+994)

I fear Lyons will pip Mitchell here.

I don’t know but Ben Briscoe beat Eric Byrne in 1992 after originally having declared to have lost by 10 votes.

Is the call for a recount over the inadmissable unstamped ballot papers, perhaps?

The FF interviews over the past 24hrs have been a great demonstration of what makes them the force they are. The language is all equality, fairness, and compassion. Little reference to the FG/Labour pre-election mantra of jobs and growth. When it was opportune to do so, they made a short jump to the left, right into the space where Labour sat five years ago. FF can do that in a way that FG can’t, even if they were tuned in enough to notice it which they weren’t. But FF’s defining feature is their flexibility. They shape-shifted at the right moment yet again.

Yeah there are a load of transfers at play here, probably 17,000 votes worth.

I think the key is if Power’s transfers push Broughan past Lyons, which I think they will. Lyons should transfer reasonably well to Mitchell if he is eliminated. But Mitchell doesn’t want to be involved in a final shoot out with Lyons as he would pick up better transfers from Broughan if Broughan was eliminated.

I’ll try and have a guess at what will eventually happen.

Count 14 - Power’s distribution of 7668:
Haughey (+1700) - 13656 - exceeds quota by 1385
Mitchell (+ 300) - 8896
O’Riordain (+ 1500) - 10047
McGrath ( + 1000) - 9069
Lyons (+ 500) - 8260
Broughan ( + 800) - 8535

Haughey elected

Count 15 - Haughey’s distribution of 1385 surplus
O’Riordain (+200) - 10247
McGrath (+ 600) - 9669
Mitchell (+ 100) - 8996
Broughan (+200) - 8735
Lyons (+100) - 8360

Lyons eliminated

Count 16 - distribution of Lyons’ 8360 votes
O’Riordain (+ 600) - 10847
McGrath ( + 900) - 10569
Mitchell (+ 2800) - 11796
Broughan (+ 2400) - 11135

McGrath eliminated

Mitchell, Broughan and O’Riordain elected without reaching the quota

I’m backing Fine Gael for the next election.

What about Sinn FĂ©in’s “numbers expert” Pearse Doherty being part of the massive Donegal fuck up that’s resulted in Sinn FĂ©in’s best TD losing his seat?

mate?

To be fair I don’t think they ever really thought that they were going to get three over the line in Donegal but needed three candidates in order to try and get two across the line.

What they didn’t count for was Tim Jackson doing so well in Ballybofey/Stranorlar, Gary Doherty’s neck of the woods and that ultimately cost them the second seat.
