A few weeks ago it was pointed out to you that Ireland had a low tax take in comparison to European countries. You disputed that. Now youâre posting figures which directly contradict your own assertion.
I love when you do that.

Ah the usual guff argument about how the government needs money through taxes to look after people and therefore the multinationals need to be accommodated, to extend of bending over for them.
It doesnât have to be like that.
Good thread here with lots of interesting discussion on the data that Tim posted.
Itâs the type of neo-liberalism that continues to drive people away from FFG. A stupid line from Tim and youâd hope heâs wumming away goodo the last couple of days or Iâd worry for him.
Itâs possible to cater for business and be compassionate towards people. Theyâre not mutually exclusive of each other. I think thatâs all most people are looking for in this country.
Has anybody asked the IDA he says
I post up record results of IDA
So he says
Not for high earners.
We have progressive system, as Iâve always stated.
Iâm not the one going around advocating for a âNordic Modelâ like others on here when they clearly donât understand it.
Thatâs not a guff argument.
You stated it was to âincrease shareholders profitsâ. I pointed out that you likely have a stake in those as well and it is not as simple as you make out.
I donât think that reality is lost on anyone who has a real interest the subject. Itâs why I didnât vote for Sinn Fein, because I donât think theyâre left wing. The reality is we also need to tax the rich more.
Unfortunately for Tim his figures directly contradict his assertion from a few weeks ago that Irelandâs tax take was actually similar to most European countries. It isnât.
You are going to run into big problems trying to build those 100,000 homes on a fantasy price if you donât think you are going to have to upset some people.
The corporate secretarial sector in this country.
Firms providing a registered address and directors to foreign companies to give the impression that they are Irish and avail of 12.5% tax rate. And it is all perfectly legal.
Have a look again at the figures you posted.
Your figures directly contradict your assertion both from a few weeks ago and the assertion you make here.
The discussion in that thread was reasonably illuminating by Twitter standards I thought and notable that it was Aidan Regan making the original point. I think the point was made somewhere that Irelandâs income tax system is highly progressive but that our overall tax take is relatively low. Lack of wealth/property taxes is part of that.
Who is Aidan Regan?
Except that taxes are more than on individuals.
Our corporation tax take is disproportionately high as a percentage vs our European peers.
I have always said that our personal tax system is progressive and that is borne out of study after study.
Left-leaning UCD academic.
Did you study tax at all?
Youâve consistently argued that Ireland should not even enforce its own corporate tax laws.
Yet he talks about the reality being lost on the left of Ireland.
Of course anyone that groups people together into the left like that canât really be left leaning.
I wasnât referring to you. Head off there about your business.
