I suspect foul play.

Did he score a penalty once where he missed the ball completely in the air but then whipped on it on the ground? Iā€™ve a vague childhood memory of that happening and would appreciate if you would confirm?

He scored a point with no boot once alright.
DJ used take the penalties.

It was with Dublin.

DJ Carey scored a lovely batted goal against Wexford in the replay in 1993, like his one against Clare in 2002 but better. Iā€™m sure it came off a long ball in by Eamon Morrissey and Iā€™m sure Morrissey was wearing one boot at the time, he shook it off before he hit the ball in to Carey.

Ah, that must be it alright.

03 Munster semi drawn game vs Limerick I think, RTE couldnā€™t televise it as they didnā€™t have a safety permit for the camera gantry or something along those lines.

Around the 16 minute mark.

Was sitting behind Morrissey in a direct line to Carey, could see it coming the whole way in.

The little cunt.

I was at the far end of the Cusack beside the Hill and didnā€™t see the goal really with people standing up after the ball was struck by Morrissey, I just remember the roar of the crowd.

A quick look at the INTERNET says Eamon Morrissey did not get an All-Star in 1993. Michael Cleary was named at 13.

How?

Morrissey wasnā€™t a consistent forward often grabbing a couple of excellent scores only to be a anonymous for the rest of the game, and was regularly marked out of games with the 93 final vs Galway an example.

I had a quick look there as well and saw that Cleary was Tippā€™s only all star that year despite winning Munster before an insipid AI semi defeat to Galway. He was Tippā€™s captain that year so I suspect there was an element of tokenism involved.

His contribution in the drawn Leinster final against Wexford - by far the best game of hurling that year - was stellar, scoring 2-3, including two opportunist goals of the highest calibre, and he brilliantly finished off what may be the best point ever scored in the history of the sport.

He set up that goal for Carey in the replay, and scored 0-2 in that game, 1-1 against Antrim and 0-2 in the final, presumably all from play. The game in general was much lower scoring then and many of the scores came from frees. Overall youā€™d have to say he made a contribution worthy of an All-Star? I mean Iā€™d be giving one to him for that Leinster final performance alone.

I loved Clearyā€™s easy style as a player but Tipp had as facile a Munster title win in 1993 as has ever been had, beating Kerry and a totally overawed Clare team. The Galway team that beat them werenā€™t great either.

I was in the Hogan Stand that day, Lower deck, and in line with the flight of the ball from Morrissey. His boot was kicked off and he slid as he delivered the ball into DJ. Brilliant goal.

We must have been close to each other :eyes:. The wexicans were fair sick the same day. Plenty of references to 1991 and the steps cc @artfoley

I was on the upper deck of the Hogan around the Canal 21 for his equalising point in the draw. Not a better seat in the house. That point was the coldest piece of execution Iā€™ve ever seen from a team, they went from stuck in their own corner under the Hill to over the bar in ten seconds flat. It was like that try New Zealand got at the end against Ireland in 2013, except way better.

I didnā€™t attend the replay.
