Malachy Clerkin: Don’t mind Newstalk’s Ciara Kelly - pitting sport against sport is completely outdated

Malachy wouldn’t thrive on here.

Vincent Hogan says hello.

If it’s about the transexual Algerian boxer beating up the Mexican boxer, that is licensed manslaughter and needs to stop before someone is killed. Whatever the girl is taking to repress testosterone or whatever, it isn’t enough. The Mexican girl could’ve taken a life altering beating there. Trans people shouldnt be allowed in combat sports to me. Theyre not games or races, it’s prize fighting.

If that’s your view it automatically means you think all boxing should be banned. Every time any boxer steps in the ring they risk being killed. That’s the sport.

The Algerian boxer is not “transexual”. Kellie Harrington beat her up a stick at the last Olympics and she was also beaten by Ireland’s Amy Broadhurst at a World Championship.

A US women’s rugby player has also been vilified and publicly humiliated because the TERF loonies didn’t deem her to be female enough.

I don’t know what TERF or any of those other acrynoms mean. It doesn’t interest me.

Harrington is exceptionally evasive and that is her style. I’ve never seen Broadhurst fight. Is the Algerian girl preparing the same way? People can improve their skills. Those two women were not equally met. The Mexican girl was actually slipping/catching punches and still having her head rocked back. It’s an accident waiting to happen.

To me, run, throw, hit ball and do whatever else but don’t fight. These people spend all day, every day hitting things and the rest of the time moving in and out of position to hit things.

Rationally, Boxing, UFC, Coursing, Horse Racing should all be banned but I’ll still watch them.

What’s this ?

It may not interest you what the so called TERF movement is but it is driving an utterly toxic and crazy discourse around gender issues in general, so you’d be as well to familiarise yourself with what it is because otherwise you don’t understand the framework through which stories like this occur and who stands to benefit from them.

This issue around the two boxers has mainly blown up because JK Rowling - who is obviously intent on following the Elon Musk path to insanity - tweeted about it. And thus the entirety of the TERF and right wing Trump supporting online worlds jumped on it.

No other reason.

Joe O’Neill, a reporter with irish-boxing.com who has covered domestic and international amateur boxing events for years, says the discourse around the two boxers is unfair given the IBA’s role in their disqualification.

“There’s no proof to support these claims from a reputable organisation and the coverage has been very selective. It’s too early to say anything without any actual proof,” he said.

Yeah I don’t buy into it and ignore it. I only saw the footage of that old fight (it’s not at the Olympics) and went ‘ooft, that’s rough’

It is mad they are letting this girl compete and not Castor Semenya, from twitter it seems like a similar case.

Sorry, read there now that there is no concrete proof beyond the appearance of the athletes and a proper review never took place. Fair enough.

I’ve seen no evidence from a reputable source that says the two boxers in question are anything other than cis women.

This is where all this leading. Cis women who don’t look sufficiently “feminine” for the headbangers’ liking will be relentlessly targeted both in sport and society.

The headbangers say that would somehow help women’s rights.

I’d to look up what CIS meant there. You’re correct, there is nothing except the Russian telegram. They are very probably just broad at the back and shoulder women. I should’ve read further into it.

Commonwealth of Independent States. Competed in Euro '92.

Co-operative Insurance Society. Sponsored Blackburn Rovers circa 1996-99.

I think this is probably the main issue with how current media works. And not a dig at you neill, you’ve said you should have read more into it, but simple twitter videos with no proper substance or facts to them get taking as full on truth and it escalates rapidly from there to where people just simply believe everything they see online without question. And quite often, its those “only asking questions” or doing “their own research” are the ones who blindly believe everything they read.

He never recovered from Brian Lohan walking all over him and getting him hauled up in front of the press ombudsman

A TERF is someone who thinks a woman is biologically born as a woman and a man as a man. The wokies don’t like that.

In this situation are we discussing people who are born neither man nor woman in an official capacity?

Nobody is born as a woman or a man, because babies are neither women nor men.

As regards the Algerian boxer, the TERFs are claiming a woman is actually a man.

TERF propaganda of late has liked to claim that cis women that TERFs deem not to be sufficiently feminine for whatever arbitrary reason (in two recent high profile cases, merely because they are black women in the US Democratic party) are not women, but men.

This drives a coach and horses through your absurdly reductionist description of TERFs.

TERFism is a cancer in public discourse and a celebration of reductionist stupidity.

The press ombudsman wouldn’t even give you a slap on the wrists, truth be told. A fairly powerless institution. You don’t even go before them.
