Iām off to Public Service Broadcasting in the Olympia Theatre, Dublin this Saturday and Fontaines DC in Uber Eats Hall, Berlin the following Friday.
Lizzy mcalpine tonight guys
Thought youād be at Kneecap pal.
Afraid not mate
State of the acts for live at the marquee again this yearā¦Ollie murs, Christy Moore and the coronas amongst them, god help us.
Itās unbelievable how bad the lineups have been the last number or yearsā¦
I seen the manic street preacher have a uk tour next summer with tickets as cheap as 50 pounds playing in smaller venues than the marqueeā¦
aitken promotions would want to get their finger out !!
Saw Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, Moving Hearts and Scullion there probably more but I canāt think of them right now.
I saw The Pogues, The Housemartins and The Communards all in mid to late 80s. An utter kip but they were great times.
It was a very handy venue, saw a slew of bands there in late 90s including Kula Shaker and the Verve. My abiding memory is going to a cafe across from the Big Tree after and bumping into a pal in there. He was laughing uncontrollably at the words āKnickerbocker gloryā on the menu. I discovered then he had ingested a hash yogurt earlier.
The SFX was a wildly exotic name, evoking images of futuristic sound systems and modern decor to impressionable young chaps in Cork and around the country Iād say
The reality was quite the opposite
What exactly was St Francis Xavier hall located?
It was on a street called Sherrard Street. In terms of pubs it was between the Big Tree and Phil Ryanās Hogan Stand. The street went off at a quare angle from the North Circular Road. Itās a block of apartments now.
Many a great night there in the early 80, Smiths, New Order, U2, The Clash, Pogues
Robbie Williams to play Croker next August. Heās looking to get a serious bounce out of that animated movie he has coming out
I actually saw him in the Aviva Iād say 10 years ago. I was a guest of some bank or other. It wasnāt a bad show and Life Thru a Lens was a very good lp but surely his star is on the wane now?
Nostalgia is the only thing that really sells now fagan.
Seen him a couple of times here over the years. Not sure the punters will be up for a lot of new stuff though.
Iām off to Nick Cave tonight.
