I’d say we’ve fairly similar taste and you’d probably agree with me that Stoner is a solid 6 or 7 out of 10 or so. @PhattPike we’ve very different taste, I didn’t like Breakfast of Champions that much either. It was ok.
Exactly… Tis like fellas arguing over the best band of all time, or the best Covid management strategy.
I thought the Hobbit was better.
I thought it was a pile of shit tbh
Bonfire of the Vanities is probably the best fiction Iv read, or Papillon
I re read a book there recently which I hadn’t picked up in 10 years. A memoir of a normal Joe who ended up in prison for manslaughter. Absolutely terrifying book brilliant written. It’s called “youv got nothing coming”
I Am Pilgrim and Shantaram two I enjoyed immensely. Any recommends from anyone who also enjoyed them? Need to get back to read a paperback at night to try get to sleep.
Shantaram v good. Its long though. If your just getting back into it pick something more manageable
I mentioned one in prev post… Youv got nothing coming
Slow getting up is a book about an NFL player. Memoir not a novel. Good read
Appreciate the steer.
Try I Am Pilgrim, thought it very good
Have you read Chickenhawk?
Read it. Good book. Could have been 400 pages shorter
First have heard of it. Trying to steer away from biographies as that’s all I ever used to read. Not into sci-fi or fantasy so trying to find fiction novels somewhere in between to make a go at
It’s brilliant… Google it.
Excellent book.
Matterhorn by Karl Marlantes is superb too. It’s a novel but clearly based on his Vietnam experiences
Tom Bombadill was a personal highlight
Papillon is in my top 5 books.
Brilliant but brutal.
High Fidelity by Nick Hormby is a very good, very easy read
Read it last year on a long flight. Laugh out loud at times.
They made a movie out of it based in America and didn’t fuck it up completely
American Psycho is a great book
