It takes all sorts!

Finished Shuggie Bain recently. Thanks for the recommendation. A brilliant book but a tough read. It makes Angela’s Ashes read like Sweet Valley High. I didn’t realise it had won the Booker Prize until I googled the author. A worthy winner.

It’s an incredible book, really well read on audible also for anybody who gets their books through that. Aggie is a character that will live with you long after you’ve put it down

All the characters are beautifully drawn. Shuggie, Leek, Shug Snr, Eugene. A modern classic imho

Agree with the above comments about Shuggie Bain. Highly recommend it.

A miserable book. Life is tough enough without putting yourself through this.

Poor old Eugene, he hadn’t a fucking clue.

That scene in the Golf Club is gripping, you know how it ends, you want to look away but you’re enthralled by the writing.

I’m currently listening to the Harry August book having read it a few years ago.

It’s a fantastic premise, you’d be looking for holes in the plot but it appears watertight to me, very good book.

I remember reading the follow up ‘Touch’ and being quite disappointed.

Has anybody read any of Andrew Marr’s history books, I’m quite enjoying his ‘History of the world’ at the moment

Yeah it’s very good. It’s a super idea and well executed.

I didn’t finish Touch. Was disappointed.

What did you think of Hamnet? Besides the fantastic description of the journey of the fleas that brought the plague to her door I thought it was dreadfully dull, interested to hear another opinion.

I’m looking for a recomendation for a popular history book on Audible, I’ve enjoyed Andrew marr’s history of thew world.
I’ve never read Beevor, is it worth a go?
