This is an enjoyable little 130 page book. The way he writes dialogue is brilliant.
Yeah I’ve read both. Good reading.
A snakey post
They havent gone away you know.
I’d really hoped he’d broken free. Some fellas cant cut the cord.
Shantaram - Gregory David Roberts
What’s it about!?
It’s the best book I’ve ever read - loosely based on the authors real life.
Without giving too much away, Aussie kid from a middle class family goes to Uni, gets mixed up in drugs and flees to India and has one hell of a tale to tell from his life there
There’s a great back story to the author writing this book several times while in prison, the book being confiscated/destroyed and written again
I started it but abandoned it tbh. Didn’t grip me. I couldn’t get TNH out of my head.
I’ve had people tell me before that it’s the best book that they ever read.
It’s the best book I’ve ever read anyway
Any Stephen king fans here?
I enjoyed some of his books as a teenager but haven’t read anything from him since.
I’d like to try one on Audible,
What are the best? Any of the more recent ones any good?
A brilliant Stephen King book is different seasons. It’s 4 long ‘short stories’ . Two of them are the stories that were made into shawshank redemption and the one in your profile pic.
The book tokens handed out to kids for world book day, exquisite
Four past midnight. Hearts of Atlantis. The Stand. The Green Mile, Different Seasons are all good. He has been much more patchy in recent years since his motorbike accident but I enjoyed Dr Sleep, Mr Mercedes and 11/22/63
Mr Mercedes and Finders Keepers are good. Same series.
I have 1122/63 on list to read.
I went with The Outsider
I watched the first 4 episodes of the TV show, I was enjoying it but the missus didn’t like it so we moved on,
I’m a fan but I read Mr mercedes recently and it didn’t grab me at all.
King is ok but anything vaguely fantasy is not? Come off it.
Dr. Sleep as the lads said. 112363 is great but the ending is just awful. I actually have a theory about King that after his amazing world building and story telling he is generally terrible at ending his books, he runs out of steam and comes out with some bullshit “aliens did it” ending that jars with the story. Anyway the dark tower series has loads of absolutely terrible bits in it but overall and as a fantasy series it’s fantastic. Under the Dome is another great and hugely influential one.
Just finished the excellent ‘Jews Don’t Count’ by David Baddiel.
I dont know who here recommended The Undefeated Mind by Dr Alex Lickerman but it was class anyway.
Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.
