Good Books

Sorry I should have clarified, I’m not signed up to a subscription. This was via Amazon (which I think get them from Audible).

I dunno so, probably prohibitively expensive to encourage you to sign up.

It’s 7.99 a month and you get any book every month for that, access to a shitload of podcasts as well,
I think it’s good value anyway :man_shrugging:

I found that I had a lot of credits built up as I typically only listen to audio books when running or on a long drive as I find you have to be engaged in them unlike podcasts. So i went to cancel the account and they gave me a new deal which only billed me every second month and gave me 6 credits a year.

Audible is a great service.

That package sounds ideal. Like yourself I dont think I’d get through that many books, particularly when working from home and no commute

You can put your sub on hold for months at a time as well if you want. Don’t pay and don’t get credits but all books stay there. Even if you cancel your sub completely you don’t lose access to the library of existing books you have and mightnt have listened to yet. An unbelivable service and great value.

I’ve the subscription, you get 1 credit a month. 1 credit = one book, no matter what length. So you just buy a really long book at the start of the month and you’re set for your communte for the month. The odd time I’d buy something extra on top of that but the idea is to only buy short books and use the credits on the long ones. On top of that as Big Dan says the odd time they run special offers on credits so you can stock up very cheap or you take a few months off it and you come back and you’ve loads of credits built up.

Audible is unreal. As well as books lots of free exclusive content.

Do any lads listen to books speeded up at 1.5x speed.

Depends on the reader, but usually about 1.5 yeah

I’ve read the first chapter of “final moments” @anon67715551
I enjoyed it so much, I think it may be in the best books I’ve ever read. I’m going to Singapore with work on Thursday, so, if it’s all the same, and you’re not in a rush, I’ll save it for then. I want to eke it out.
Published in maighcuilinn.
The opening chapter is the best Irish literature I have ever read.

I’m on the last book of the Hilary Mantel trilogy of the career of Thomas Cromwell during the reign of Henry Tudor. Excellent narrator and excellent content.

He didn’t like it one bit when Henry stitched him up like a kipper and took all the English church income.

He pivoted quickly enough telling his employees in Ireland they could play puck whatever way their inclinations took them, an offer swiftly grabbed up.
Read the Ferns and Cloyne reports and you’ll think Cromwell was an altar-boy.

Poor choice of phrase perhaps :flushed:

Green lights by Mathew McGonaghy is an interesting one. What an upbringing.
