There was great writers in the past, but they never spoke to me like Ryan does, he writes about Ireland today
Banville’s from up The Faythe, probably who all the Harriers lads were playing with ha.
Very much enjoying Emily’s book. Some decent stories well told. Her narration on audible helps too
I’ve just finished Shuggie Bain.
It’s hard to believe this is a debut novel. It is a remarkable book, really beautifully written. A visceral, immediate book. Can’t recommend it enough.
Can’t waut to read his next, Young Mungo.
Books ordered I intend to read soon:
Ernie O’Malley- A Life (Harry Martin with Cormac O’Malley)
Orwells Roses (Rebecca Solnit)

Applying my general music snobbish tendencies towards literature I tried to read Finnegan’s Wake that was lying around the house at home.
Ah be Jaysus!
I read recently it was turned down by 40 odd publishers as they had no idea how to sell/market it
Hard get a book deal now for a man as men don’t buy books in any numbers
Jesus the description of life out in the council estate beside the Pits was as visceral a read as you’ll ever experience … brutal stuff…
Are people still reading fiction
Don’t worry about the other lads and what they’re reading. Have a go yourself.
Fiction is so 20th century.
You’re just at a different stage of your life to them mate. You no longer want ‘stories’ and have a burning desire for facts. Its often the way when lads mature, particularly if they havent had much in the way of education. I’m proud of you.
It’s much easier to read, I didn’t enjoy Milkman as much as most, too much effort.
Might pick it up for a holiday so
A random selection. Sevens Heaven is excellent on Audible. A below the radar classic I’d have thought.
Night games the best of those that Iv read. Barely about sport though really
Andre Agassi’s book a glaring omission. Tyler Hamilton’s book was great too.
Feet in the clouds and the rider are two other glaring omissions.
