Are we still talking about Harry Potter here?
The library is free to join this year… I don’t know if that meant for this year only or it’s a new thing from this year…but no charge. And yeah, they have a fairly extensive collection.
A veritable Library of books I believe
Where is the main library in Limerick? Is it out by the council office in Raheen or am I way off? I’m going to check it out.
The main one is in the granary in town, next door to the entrance of the club that has been trinity rooms as well as many other things. The one in the crescent shopping centre is fine as well
You can borrow/return from either once you’ve joined.
I know yeah, we use the two of them all the time and sometimes go to Watchhouse cross for a bit of variety. When you’ve kids you’ll really see the value of a library. I still like to buy sports books sometimes but you couldn’t keep up with the little ones.
I don’t know tbh. My da saw that the cartel was nominated as thriller of the year, Googled it, and saw it was second in the sequence, so bought the first which is a decent, if depressing read.
There is a bit of reading in the Cartel anyways
Just finished Denis Lehane’s World Gone By, sequel to Live by Night (Affleck is about to release the film version of that one). Found it better than the first book, an enjoyable read. I assume Affleck has the screenplay rights for this one tied up too, think this one would be easier adapt.
Donal Ryan has a new book out, bought it today. His other books are as good as recent fiction has gotten in my opinion.
Liked the short story one, was a bit disappointed with the novel
He is top class. Let us know what the new one is like. I preferred The thing about December to The Spinning Heart but they were both brilliant
This is his third novel, to be honest I’ve loved everything he’s done, some of the short stories are a little too dark but still very strong.
I switched on RTE Radio 1 while driving late enough one night. Some dude with a Tipp accent was telling a mad yarn about some auld lad getting beaten to death. Turned out it was Donal Ryan reading an excerpt from The Spinning Heart. Went out and bought it the following day and had it read by evening.
I read the spinning heart first and a very brief reference to the climax of the December book ruined the latter on me
They’re grand short books as well which encourages ya to fly through them, 14.95 is pricy though for 170 pges.
Brilliant writer, his achievement in writing in the voice of so many disparate characters in the spinning heart was phenomenal.
I gave it to 3 people to read after me, and had it back within a week. A real (short) page turner.
I’ve recently added another book by Edmund Lenihan to my collection (@TreatyStones). I could read his tales all day. All joking aside he has a lovely way about him. The Savage Pigs of Tulla is one of the best Irish short stories I’ve ever read.
