Good Books

I found myself saying ‘fuck off O’Dowd’ as I read that post.

That’s not very nice.

I just enjoyed “the son”
By Jo nesbo

What’s the verdict on this one?

Unbelievable, on a par with his other two novels, I’ve only about 40 pages read cause I was out on Friday night and watching football till late last night but the writing is amazing as always, dark as fuck.

Does the mood lift a bit in this ? I read the first couple of chapters the other night and felt like killing myself

Not really, it’s brilliantly written but very dark at times, might make uncomfortable reading for some, a bit lie the old Roddy Doyle show on RTE with Charlo.
Melody is a mad bitch and you’ll feel sorry for Pat sometimes but don’t stop reading.

The thing about December was awful sad altogether. Tough going.

Great representation of Irish life all same

That’s what he does I suppose, he’s the best writer we have at the moment, only Joe O’Connor comes close.

I could never get into Joe O’Connor tbh

Just finished Ian McEwan - the children’s act. Not his best but a good read all the same

I love McEwan, Atonement and On Chesil Beach are in my top 5, Amsterdam and Saturday are also brilliant. . The children’s act isn’t great but you’d fly through it cause it’s nice and short. I’ll be reading his new book next I’d say.

I think O’Connor is amazing, all his books are top class, Star of the Sea is probably the pick but Redemption falls is amazing once you get over the first 50 pages.

Saturday is my favourite but all good. Spans loads of different eras etc in books no real common themes

Enduring Love was very good too. He is a great writer

Just picked this up on my way home from work, seems to be a glut of sports books coming out in advance of the Christmas market, Jason McAteer’s is out as well but I thought Barton would have a good story to tell, looking forward to this as he’s written it with Michael Calvin.

Edmund Lenihan is our best storyteller by a long shot. His books are the definition of ‘page turner’.

I’ll definitely buy that

Joey is tremendous fun.

NO SENSE should be the name of that

The likes of Barton hadnt much of a chance really,he was dragged up.If he wasnt a footballer hed most likely be in prision.

I’m reading Frankie Boyles autobiography at the moment - ‘My shit life so far’. Its a few years old but its enjoyable. I’d say most of the stuff in it he’s just making it up but naturally its very funny and Boyle has a lovely way with words.
