Watched John Sayles’ film “Matewan” last night. It’s about a labour dispute in the coal mines of West Virginia in 1920.
Absolutely smashing film altogether. Anybody who has seen “Harlan County, USA” will like it. Some great music in it featuring the amazing voice of Hazel Dickens.
Also watched “Dr. Strangelove” for the first time a few days ago. I wasn’t disappointed.
Going to watch “Hamburger Hill” next when I get a chance. Have seen snippets of this before which I was impressed by but never watched it in full.

Transformers actor Shia LaBeouf has announced on Twitter that he is “retiring from all public life.”
The 27-year-old actor, who recently came under fire over a plagiarism issue with Daniel Clownes, the comic book artist, took to his social networking site to tell fans about his dramatic decision.
He wrote: “In light of the recent attacks against my artistic integrity, I am retiring from all public life.”
Shia added: “My love goes out to those who have supported me.”
LaBeouf further posted: “#stopcreating”
The actor changed his Twitter background to the cease-and-desist letter he received from Clowes’ lawyer, using all the information apart from the words, “he must stop all efforts.”

Saw Dallas Buyers Club last night.
McConaughey is excellent in it - serious amount of weight loss by him and Jared Leto. Compelling story but suffers a bit as a film in that there was no natural end so it sort of petered out a bit. I’m giving it a 6+/10.
