You’re deflecting a bit pal. Every parent was living in fear of the Catholic Church. It was a shocking abuse of power with horrendous consequences, particularly for the most vulnerable.
You seem to get great comfort from your faith and fair play to you for that. But nothing can or will absolve the church for the pain and suffering they caused.
No one trying to absolve anyone from heinous crimes against children
But let’s be honest
ALL adults including church ppl
Parents
Gardai
Local councils
Government etc at the time are to blame
Can’t keep blaming ALL the church all of the time for disgusting creatures within it
Again I point out we’d be in a far worse situation/ position ATM in our banana partial republic ( )
Without the church educating, caring for and guiding us since after the famine,
We’d be still ignorant
Lucky few with money/ connections would be educated
V majority wouldn’t be near a 3 rd level institution,
Who’d bury your dead relatives/ loved ones?
Who’d christen same
Who amongst us or the generations before us were married in church?
V majority,
Who amongst us even on this forum turn up at Easter and Christmas for mass/ service?
Or turn up for funeral services in church if you don’t believe in the institution?
All about choices in 2024 and dare I say it hypocrisy
Mother and baby homes started off in England which is a protestant country so its a bit unfair to blame it all on the Catholic church. You could argue they were a product of societal values at the time…we just persisted with them for decades after other countries got rid.
Era don’t bother bud
Church isn’t bothered about you!
Course when it’s time for dear ones to be buried etc
You’ll be along to to sort it via church like the vvv majority of Irish ppl
Camelot on RTÉ1, the sort of movie that makes the Christmas schedule. Was trying to place the actor who played Lancelot and then it hits me, General Ramon Esperanza
Took me far too long to get around to this. Incredible. Maybe it’s the music but it absolutely knocked me out. Deserved far greater recognition than it got. Scott was amazing. Beautifully made.
