Good Fillums

It’s no wonder looking at that list that his films have gone to the dogs.

Watched One Battle After Another - a big giant meh. Maybe I had too high expectations for it.

Ready or Not is a film that passed me by entirely and only came to my notice now there’s a sequel coming out. Well worth a watch for those who love their horror infused with a bit of comedy and schlock. A girl marries into a very wealthy old money dysfunctional family and has a wedding night to remember.

My top 5 filums of the 21st century:

  1. Hunger (2008 Steve McQueen)
  2. The Lives of Others (2006 Florian Henckel Von Donnersmarck)
  3. Quo Vadis, Aida? (2020 Jasmila Žbanić)
  4. An Cailín Ciúin (2022 Colm Bairéad)
  5. All Of Us Strangers (2023 Andrew Haigh)

There’s many honourable mentions but I can’t be bothered listing them. I’m pretty happy these are the 5 best films I’ve seen from this century.

I haven’t seen numbers 4 and 5 but couldn’t argue with your first 3.

The Lives of Others is one of my all-time favourites, let alone the 21st century.

An understated contender for me would be the wonderful That They May Face The Rising Sun (2023)

I wasn’t a fan of all of us strangers - Aftersun and Tyrannosaur would definitely be in my top 5.

I haven’t heard of Tyrranosaur and I haven’t seen Aftersun, which I really mean to.
I thought All Of Us Strangers was an incredibly moving film, without being sentimental or twee and all four performances were phenomenal.

You have to watch 4 and 5, especially An Cailin Ciuin. A great film to watch with the family over Christmas.

It’s all subjective. But I hated All of us strangers

Such is the nature of art mate and I respect your opinion.

I also forgot dead man’s shoes which I would probably have at number 1

Was it yourself posted about The Portuguese House on here?

I searched but all I got was hits for Davy Fitz.:joy::thinking:

Lovely little film. Slow moving and beautiful and a bit of gardening.

No, never heard of it, looks interesting.

The true story of Tourette’s Syndrome sufferer John Davidson. Davidson is brilliantly portrayed by Robert Aramayo (appeared in Game of Thrones flashbacks as younger Ned Stark)

As good a film as I’ve seen in a while and the lead turn by Aramayo is outstanding.
