Good Fillums

My brother did the Merchant of Venice and used to be on about it at home. I genuinely thought it was set in Clare.

It is, it was originally known as The Merchant of Ennistymon.

Coriolanus was on the Leaving Cert cycle in my day. I didn’t do it but the lads in the year ahead did and I still remember them cribbing about it.

It’s a fairly well know fact in Clare that the Merchant Of Venice wasn’t written by Shakespeare but was written by a Clare man with the same name.

Written by Davy O’Shakespeare, so it was.

I think his first name was Liam, but my memory is a bit foggy. He might have been a Kerry man. In fact I can’t even remember which plays we did in school.

What I can remember is that one of the lads in my class, a Graiguenamanagh lad, answered the questions on the book we hadn’t studied as he had seen it o TV.

Has ‘Peig - An Scannàn’ ever been attempted?

One reviewer on Melania- If it was shown on an airplane people would be rushing for the exits

Good one bro

A Bridge Too Far on now. Unfuckingbelievable film! I’d say top 3 war films ever…

I love that film. Edward Fox’s speech and the scenes with Michael Caine are brilliant “gentlemen, gentlemen, this is a story you’ll tell your grandchildren and mightily bored they’ll be”.
