Grass Court Tennis Season 2013

After all that muck in the clay, finally the tennis season proper starts today as the Aegon Championship gets underway at the Queens Club. The main focus will be on the return of Andy Murray. Andy sensibly gave Roland Garros a skip to try and allow his niggling injury to clear up fully. It certainly wasn’t worth risking a repeat of 2007 when he missed out through injury on the All England Club.

The Gerry Weber Open is also underway in Halle today.

Ah finally proper tennis, rather than the shit that was served up on the clay.

Tennis on grass means rain. Or the munchies…

dont forget the strawberries and ice cream. I bet the Wexford contingent on this site are busy in the fields picking the strawberries as we speak.

What is the story with seedings for Wimbledon? Nadal has dropped to no.5 despite winning in Roland Garros, do Wimbeldon generally stick to the rankings or do they cater for alternative seedings?

They do their own thing.

Good stuff from Andy yesterday with a straight sets win over Benjamin Becker. Injury doesn’t seem to be inhibiting him. Semi finals today, Andy faces Tsonga and a rejuvenated Lleyton Hewitt faces defending champion Marin Cilic.

Over in Halle, Federer faces Tommy Hass in the first semi final and Gasquet will face the winner of the last quarter final between Kohlschreiber & Youzhny.

Grass tennis.

James McGee has drawn Paul Capdeville in the first round of Wimbledon qualifiers.

First title in 10 months for Federer in Halle today. Andy Murray won at Queens.

Early break for McGee. Leads 2-1 in first set with his second service game to come.

All went wrong. Lost first set and serving now to stay in the match.

Assume he lost? Was just reading about the cunt last night at about 2am when I couldn’t sleep. Comes across as an alright sort.

Yeah he lost 6-3 6-4 or something like that.

The seedings for this years wimbledon have been released. The top 5 men are;

  1. Noval Djokovic
  2. Andy Murray
  3. Roger Federer
  4. David Ferrer
  5. Rafa Nadal.

Some interesting quarter finals could be in store. I would stick up the womens but who really gives a shit, Williams will win it.

Best case scenario for Murray in draw: easy run to final, just having to beat Ferrer in semi
Worst case: Having to beat Nadal, then Federer, then Djokovic to win title

Bring on the Murray, the Djokovic and the Federer,
Because we only know there is going to be a show,
And the Rafa Nadal will be there.

I think the organisers will be doing all they can to make sure Djokovic and Nadal are on the same side of the draw, they know a clash between these two early on will be titanic and likely take a lot out of them thus increasing the chances for their golden boys - Fed and Murray. But despite all the handicaps between seedings and everything I am still very confident of Nadal’s chances. He is my favourite to win it. I think that semi final win over Djokovic will have given him a great confidence boost.

Draw made today.

Nadal will most likely have to beat the top 3 seeds to win Wimbledon, he will have Federer in the quarters should both get that far, Murray in the semis and Djokovic in the final. Djokovic will be favourite for Wimbledon but I’m extremely confident of Nadal’s chances. I also expect Del Potro to make the semi and he has a very good outside chance of winning it.
