when you compare that commoner Ovett’s arrogant antics at Crystal palace to the great Lord Coe you can see why they cannot be spoken about in the same terms

anyone else have any personal favourites from Heysel?

Has this thread hit a wall already?

I’m going to take a stab in the dark here, but I think Mickee is trying to be controversial.

why would you choose to wait until its dark?

We’ve already had one Liam Brady penalty in here so far so we might as well have another, a missed one this time.

Graham Rix could score with a 15 year old but couldn’t score from the spot.

I think in many ways what happened at the Heysel Stadium on May 29th, 1985 paved the way for the fall of communism. People point to Ronald Reagan’s speech where he implored Mr. Gorbachev to “tear down this wall” as a key turning point in the Cold War. People throughout the west roared approval at the former B-list actor’s clarion call for freedom.

But as the Bee Gees once sang, they were only words. Two years previously, Liverpool supporters had shown how actions are so much louder. Yet we were vilified, while Berliners were hailed as heroes when they followed our example four and a half years later. An incredible double standard.

We showed the way. Sometimes you have to take one step back to take two steps forward. While the wall that was torn down in Europe’s capital that night temporarily divided our continent in a football sense, it created the conditions where Europe could be re-united in a political sense. That’s an incredible thing, and something we as Liverpool supporters will never forget.

Classic Piles

30th anniversary of the Heysel disaster next year. 39 innocent football fans went to a game and never came home.

Hopefully the authorities will honour the dead in an appropriate manner. #JFT39.

Platini didn’t look too bothered

Liverpool were robbed barefaced that night. Their penalty was never a penalty (it was 2 yards outside the box for a start) and Ronnie Whelan was blatantly hacked down in the box. However it was never going to be any other way given what had happened. Juventus’s reaction to the result was very distasteful. So much for caring about your own fans. Platini and the rest looked like they didn’t give a shit. Joe Fagan was a nervous wreck during the match however after what had happened and had to be helped off the plane in tears when it landed back in Liverpool.
The stress of Hillsborough had a profound effect on Kenny Dalglish - he had to quit the job as that awful day in Sheffield took a huge toll on him. Perfectly understandable. Showed real character to come back to work a few months later at Jack Walker’s Blackburn.

Strange that the deaths of 39 innocent people at Heysel didn’t have a similar effect on him, for whatever reason. Probably a credit to Kenny that, in the case of Heysel, he was able to put the passing of innocent people at a football stadium disaster to one side and work on through it.
Go handy will you.

You’re one messed up individual, point scoring over 96 innocent dead for your beloved Man U. You should be committed.

You that’s so big into keeping sport local, what part of Manchester is it you’re from again?

You’re some prick Dodgy.

As horrible a cunt as you’ll find on the Internet alright

He’s only trotting after you pal.
