Great Irish Music

A suspect list. No Horslips.

Are My Bloody Valentine Irish? The Smiths are more Irish

“I am the greatest” in the 30s is stingy

Unlike the Smiths, MBV have members who are Irish. I think they may have been based in London when they made it or Amsterdam.
I always had them as an English band with some Irish members.

They’re pure Irish

1 Irish born and Shields grew up in Dublin.
Anglo-Irish I suppose.
Haven’t listened to loveless in years

It’s still a great listen. They are as Oirish as the Pogues or Thin Lizzy.

Rum, Sodomy & the Lash should be number higher imo.

And without a limit on numbers of albums from one particular artist, If I Should Fall From Grace With God should be on there too.

Better than these lists usually are though, with a decent mix of newer & older stuff, as well as some more alternative shouts.

I would definitely have Troublegum & Fin de Siecle in a top 50 though.

EDIT- Troublegum is actually there; but no Divine Comedy at all.

Nothing by The Divine Comedy is a big error, a very big error.

Whipping Boy is a load of me bollix.

Becoming a Jackal is a very good album, good to see it there at 11.

Grand Parade by the Franks is the most obvious and shocking omission :man_shrugging:

Very few Cork albums there in fairness

Microdisney, Fatima Mansions and Rory Gallagher, we’ll take all of them

3 from Sinead O’Connor in top 40 is excessive

Fight like Apes :roll_eyes::roll_eyes:

The quoted song from the article When We Were Young is the worst on it.

But other than that it’s absolutely brilliant.
