Great Patriotic Songs about our country

Lets get a sensible thread going on this useless website.

Lets start with a song written about me:

MADE IN AMERICA

Made in America, nineteen fifty nine,
Born down by the factories, cross the Jersey City line.
Raised on radio, just a jukebox kid,
I was alright.
Just a small town homeboy, with big dreams,
Following his conscience, in a world full of extremes.
Fresh outta high school, only seventeen,
I was alright.
Blinded by my vision, there was just no turning back,
Like a runaway train, life was steaming down the track.
You’d say I’d never made it out, but I kept on hanging on,
Every night I prayed to Jesus, and held my head up strong.
I was alright, I landed on my feet,
Made in America, I was brought up on the street.
My old man’s independence, seemed good enough for me,
I was made in America, made in America.
Never cared much about politics,'til I was twenty one,
But I woke up when Lennon, found the wrong end of a gun.
He left his inspiration, before he said goodbye,
And we were alright.
We all lose our innocence, it’s impossible to hold,
I didn’t know it then, I had a pocket full of gold.
When I kissed those younger days goodbye, it almost broke my heart,
I was going through my growing pains, I was driving in the dark.
But I was alright, I landed on my feet,
Made in America, I was brought up on the street.
I’m facing up to freedom, and chasing down my dream,
I was made in America, yeah I was made in America.
Yeah we all lose our innocence, it’s impossible to hold,
I just didn’t know it then, I had a pocket full of gold.
When they said I’d never make it, I just kept hanging on,
And every night I prayed to Jesus, and I held my head up strong.
And I was alright, I landed on my feet,
Made in America, I was brought up on the street.
Facing up to who I am, chasing down my dream,
I was made in America, yeah I was made in America.
Made in America.

VOTE QUIMBY!

I never knew the writer of that song was a Quimby fan

Well in fairness bucko, if your into hurling, there’s probably a lot you dont know. Like what a good sport is.

Here’s another little ditty about the great land:

God bless America,
Land that I love,
Stand beside her and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above;

From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam,
God bless America,
My home, sweet home.
God bless America,
My home, sweet home.

Great title for a song by a terrific American band called Out Hud:

Dear Mr. Bush, There Are Over 100 Words For Shit And Only 1 For Music. Fuck You, Out Hud

Ah c’mon, surely someone of your reputation can come up with something better than that. There’s primary shool kids would get beaten up for a slagging that poor.

God bless America

God bless America, land of the free, home of the brave

Farmer you’ve changed. And not for the better http://www.thefreekick.com/vbforum/images/icons/icon10.gif

Changed?

In what way?

I never bought the whole American thing.

But you do like America. How many times have you been?

Twice. It’s a cool spot but their President is an almight dickhead.

True, and most of the people couldnt find their own state on a map. Here’s a funny stat from a report on Young Americans Geographic literacy: “Half of young Americans can’t find New York on a map.”

Neil Diamond we salute you

What is America to me
A name, a map, or a flag I see
A certain word, democracy
What is America to me

The house I live in
A plot of earth, the street
The grocer and the butcher
Or the people that I meet
The children in the playground
The faces that I see
All races and religions
That’s America to me

The place I work in
The worker by my side
The little town the city
Where my people lived and died
The howdy and the handshake
The air a feeling free
And the right to speak your MIND OUT
That’s America to me

The things I see about me
The big things and the small
That little corner newsstand
Or the house a mile tall
The wedding and the churchyard
The laughter and the tears
The dream that’s been a growing
For more than two hundred years

The town I live in
The street, the house, the room
The pavement of the city
Or a garden all in bloom
The church the school the clubhouse
The millions lights I see
Especially the people
That’s America to me

There’s nothing like being airside in a foreign airport and seeing the green livery of an Aer Lingus plane as it pulls up to your gate! Brings a tear to my eye.
