Townsend and Gary Waddock look to be standing on blocks for some reason, presumably to keep the heights of the players in the back row uniform although John Sheridan is a step down.

It’s a bizzare photo really, the “stage” that the players in the middle and back rows are standing on appears to be made up of a combination of breeze blocks, blocks on their side, blocks on the flat and lengths of ply or mdf on top.

I’ll go along with all that…

I was thinking it could be a ‘suit’ from Irish Permanent?

Quite possibly, I was an avid follower of the ROIMNT in my youth but this dude doesn’t ring a bell at all at all.

It’s not your man Morris is it?

Chris Morris? He’s far left in the middle row.

Is it Mickey Walsh of Porto?

Had to google him as he was a bit before my time, definitely similarities there.

Maybe @Cheasty with his encyclopedic knowledge of such matters can verify?

I don’t think I ever remember him playing in his slacks. That was usually the preserve of lads press ganged into playing junior football after Sunday Mass

This was his finest moment in a green shirt v USSR. Those Wed afternoon kick offs in the 80s were great craic.

“Walsh’s 21st and final Irish cap came in 1984, meaning he was never part of Jack Charlton’s Irish side”

This appears to eliminate him from our enquiries.

I’d say he meant Maurice
