I was willing him to win that night, my first proper eurovision experience, I realised what it meant
Johnny Logan is a national treasure.
He’s still hugely popular in Germany and of all places Turkey.
That’s when Eurovision actually meant something. I used to love it. Nowadays it’s pure shite.
If you look back at the songs that won for Ireland and ask yourself how many of those songs would win today, the answer is none. Why? Because theyre too fucking good for the shit we hear today
its like the way the FA cup has gone, meaningless and devalued, I remember my emotions that night, it was like being at an All Ireland final, the tension was unreal, it was probably the event which signalled the beginning of the emergence of the Celtic tiger if you think about, it inspired a nation and gave us hope to believe
Hold me now would still win I’d say, Linda Martin and Niamh Kavanagh had great songs (in a eurovision context)
None of those are guilty pleasures, great power ballads.
Possibly under the old voting system but not under the current system I’d say. @Tassotti makes a great point. The three in a row (92,93,94) gave the country great exposure
My favourite Eurovision moment
Everyone in the country holding their breaths
While Logan was the King. I think this was our best song
the sense of anticipation
Just watched it back there. I was still nervous
What’s your favourite there @Tassotti @backinatracksuit
I had forgotten what an original winner “the voice” was. Would hold its own as well today
The voice was shit but I once got a ride off a bird because I told her she looked like Eimear Quinn around that time, well at least that’s what got me talking to her.
Hold me now is the best Eurovision song ever by a distance, Dana and Rock n roll kids are too twee for words.
Hold me now, it reminds me of a very happy time in my life, a child like innocence
Not too sure I agree about the voice. Although it was a knock off of sorts of the year before when Fionnuala Sherry won it for Norway with her violin.
Hold me now is a close second for me after In your eyes
I’m not sure The Voice was that original within a Eurovision context.
The previous year (I think) the Norwegians won with a Celtic-type song. Secret Garden was either the band or the song and I think there was an Irish lass on fiddle.
Ireland capitalised on that banshee stuff the following year.
Yeah I think I’ll have to retract the "original "bit.
You should play it for young Fintan some time. Share the happy memories.
I hadn’t seen your post above pal. Apologies.
Good boy
