Harty Cup 2012/2013

Is that O’Connor lad from Newtown any relation to the twins?

Dunno. Small as Newtown is I think there is another O’Connor family involved in Newtown hurling. That lad played for the Cork U-16s last year btw.

Limerick will have a bagful of Harty Cup hurlers this year between Doon CBS, Ardscoil, Castletroy, West Limerick and Abbey CBS who have the Fannings and Eoin Mac.

Will be a serious breeding ground for the Limerick Minors

Is their a detailed fixture list out for this lads…? Do we know when and where this week’s matches are on?

Three schools return to Harty Cup arena

It will be a time for bridging gaps as the Dr Harty Cup gets underway today, albeit with a more truncated fixture list than usual.
As the Tipperary minor hurlers are waiting to play their All-Ireland final replay with Dublin, just four games take place, one in each group.

The clash of Gaelcholáiste Mhuire, the Irish-language arm of the famous North Monastery, and St Flannan’s in Bruff will be the first time since 2007 that the Mon will have had involvement in the competition.

Seán Ó Muirnáin, Eadbhard Ó Conaing, Adam Ó Donnabháin and Pádraig Guest have all had Cork U16 or U17 experience, but with such a young squad the city school see this as the first step on a longer-term plan.

Another side looking to the future will be Abbey CBS of Tipperary town, who face ColĂĄistĂ Iar LuimnĂ in Kilmallock.

In their first Harty foray since 2003, they will look to Donal O’Dwyer, part of the Tipp extended minor panel, and Thomas O’Donoghue, who was on the county football panel. In addition, there is Limerick influence in goalkeeper Eoin McNamara and twins Brian and Darragh Fanning.

Coláistí Iar Luimní, consisting of West Limerick schools Hazelwood College (Dromcollogher), Coláiste na Trócaire of Rathkeale and Newcastlewest’s Desmond College, are making a Harty debut, with Limerick minors David Condron and goalkeeper Conor Lynch in their ranks.

The longest drought being ended is that of Bandon’s Hamilton High School, however. Their only previous campaign was in 1993-94 (incidentally, Cork football goalkeeper Alan Quirke scored a goal in the school’s debut, a six-point defeat to Midleton CBS). Michael Cahalane and Trevor Horgan, the respective top scorers as Bandon defeated Newcestown in the Carbery Division U21AHC final on Sunday, will join forces as the key creative influences in the attack.

In the other game, nine-time winners St Colman’s of Fermoy do battle with Coláisti Chiarraí at Dromcollogher.

DR HARTY CUP: Group 1: St Colman’s v Coláistí Chiarraí, Dromcollogher, 1.30pm; Group 2: Coláistí Iar Luimní v Abbey CBS, 1pm; Group 3: Coláiste Chríost Rí v Hamilton High School, Ballygarvan, 1.30pm; Group 4: Gaelcholáiste Mhuire v St Flannan’s, Bruff, 1.30pm.

Half Time : Limerick Desmond colleges 1-07 0-07 Abbey CBS

How big would the secondary school in Drumcollogher be?

About yay big.

it’d be big enough id say

Around 500-600 pupils I’d say Chewy.

Harty Cup result West Limerick Colleges 1-17 Abbey CBS 1-12

500-600 in Drumcollogher? No fucking way. Sure there’d be at 250,000 pupils in Drumcollogher.

Great result for the West Limerick Colleges in their Harty Cup debut. Hopefully they’ll continue to improve.

Was anyone on here at it or know their starting team? The Examiner is usually the best paper for Harty Cup match reports the day after games.

Almost nothing in the Examiner regarding the games dodgy-keeper.

The Examiner is not the paper it once was. Report from the West Limerick game is in the Limerick Leader

West Limerick Colleges (Rathkeale unless named) : David Lynch, Damien O’Donovan, Sean Flanagan (Hazelwood), Brian Hannon, Andrew Scully, Eric O’Connor (Hazelwood), Peter Mulcahy (Hazelwood), Darren Jones (Hazelwood), Jamie Butler (Hazelwood), Eoin Hurley (NCW), David Condron, Michael Sexton (NCW), Stephen Casey, Seamus Flanagan (Hazelwood), Damien Lacey (Hazelwood). Subs: Stephen Brosnan (NCW), Darragh Kiely (Hazelwood), Eoin O’Donnell

Scorers Damien Lacey 1.12, Eoin Hurley 0.2, Jamie Butler, Darren Jones, Michael Sexton 0.1 each

Were Colaiste Mhuire Askeaton asked to partake? They would surely have been able to contribute a player or two?

I think there is a limit to the number of schools that can participate. Abbeyfeale would surely have had a couple from Tournafulla and Templeglantine but I think the rule prevented them from participating also
