Has Darts eclipsed Snooker?

Why does the darts final take place on such a random night? Surely the weekend would be more box office

The way it normally works is the final takes place on January 3rd to enable the quarters to take place on January 1st and semis on the 2nd, alternatively some years the final is on the 1st. I think the 3rd is the preferred final date as it enables the last 32 to start on the 27th of December after the three day Christmas break.

Finals have taken place on the 4th and 5th in previous years but not for a while now.

Love both games. Darts is like take away from a tasty chipper, while snooker is like your mam’s sunday roast with gravey.

Snooker has more substance. The players actually interact with each other. The long form gives it a dimension darts just doesn’t have

Snooker is the sport of kings.

How Gregory lost that, I’ll never know. The sort of defeat I’d imagine would haunt you until your dying breath. Gregory actually had dementia in his final years, so it possibly wasn’t on his mind when he passed.

Mike Gregory’s Mam died on Xmas day 1991. It was a remarkable feat to get to missed doubles to beat Taylor.

Sure Jockey Wilson nearly shit his pants against Bristo after being 4-0 up back in the day but eventually held on to win.Gregory just lost his nerve.Darts is all about mentality at the very top.

I was put in last in a race to 3 with the scores tied at 2-2 in a league game. I was sober at the time and I’d say my knee never twitched as much when I was on the oche.

The lads on the tour have some bottle / have comsumed a few bottles.

Even the great Martin “Wolfie” Adams only barely fell over the line having been 6-0 up against Phill Nixon in the 2007 World Championship final.

To somehow get through a brush with disaster like that can only be achieved with the mentality of the true greats.

Keeping your composure is the hardest part, blocking out everything else.I played a competition last week and bottled it on 2-2 with both of us on double 16,I was hitting it all evening but went inside on the first inside on the 8 and basically threw it at double 4 hoping it would go in rather than expecting it to.Needless to say I lost.

Both Ronnie and Barry Hearn are quoted as saying they’d move the World Championship to the Ally Pally I’m nearly sure.

Lads serving to defend a match point in tennis is amazing mental strength

Nothing beats it in global sport in my opinion. The ultimate test.

Come on mate, that was a total fix in an attempt to match the drama of the Taylor Barney final the week before. Phil Nixon (RIP) was nowhere near good enough to come back from 6–0 down.

Lolz

As a gassun me and the brother would never root for the same team/person in sports(Jimmy White being the exception). He was Utd, I was Liverpool. He was Lendl, I was Becker. He liked John Lowe and I was Bristow. He liked rave, I liked metal. Of all the sports, darts final invariably ended with the oul lad having to separate us. The speed of it, the momentum changes was probably why. I’m not surprised to hear there are riots at the darts tbh.
