Hearts v Celtic

Following Alistair Johnston’s contract extension to 2029 yesterday, the club announced a 1-year extension for James Forrest this morning. I’m not permitted to post this on the Celtic non-matchday discussion thread today, as Celtic are playing later.

Rodgers said everyone returned from international duty fit & well & there are no other injuries.

7.45pm kick off tonight live on Sky Sports.

I’m presuming this is clickbait and not a clue that one of the midfielders is off in January?

Seems completely random clickbait. Ex Man Utd player Paul Parker speaking about Eriksen to some Danish publication, touting a move to Celtic seemingly without any foundation/insider knowledge & the quotes picked up by Football Scotland.

Huge results elsewhere today.

Aberdeen have suffered their first league defeat of the season at the SMISA Stadium while St Johnstone ended the mini-Killie revival & leapfrogged them in the table in the process. Meanwhile, a great day for third placed Rangers in closing the gap on Aberdeen (& potentially Celtic depending on the result later) in fighting back to earn a spirited draw at home to Dundee United.

Same team as Leipzig at home & clearly what Rodgers considers his strongest side. Decent options on the bench across all sectors. Think Hearts are setting up to man mark & press high up the pitch. That was a great chance for them there already actually but feel Celtic will have real opportunities when they break the initial press.

Game moving more in our favour after a shaky start.

Poor effort from Shankland there. This is a good game.

Hearts are going to connect with one of those pullbacks eventually. Celtic midfield getting turned over high up the field with no cover behind them on more than one occasion

The mini huns have ruined the atmsophere in this game by cutting the away allocations, whilst having rows of empty home seats. Pathetic

Not a great half from Celtic.

Played through the press a couple of times after a shaky start. But then seemed to lose our composure and were fairly sloppy as the game went on.

Taylor has given it away a few times but has actually created some attacks too. CCV has been too slow on the ball and Maeda’s touch hasn’t been brilliant. Couple of nice passes by Engels but the midfield three really aren’t dominating like they should.

Hearts have been the better side. First game after the international break is often a sluggish performance from Celtic & that’s been the case again. Off the pace generally, slow to react to get in position to receive the ball & to track runners, not being sharp to where the ball’s going to be to recover it & build pressure. Players’ touch off & getting dispossessed. Not great at all & need to up it hugely. Nobody playing at their best level but would like to see more personality from Engels to demand the ball.

Big save from Gordon…but Kyogo has been missing a load of chances this season.
