Heaviest gambling loss

this is a thread for posters to log their worst days gambling or when they felt they had a problem.
one night i lost ~1,000 euro backing football matches in running
was sick for few days after it, convinced myself id win it back and lost another 2k in the chase over the next few weeks, some curse

Not including hedging I assume

its up to you what you consider to be your biggest losses, post away pal

I lost two billy busters and a best friend when I was accused of cheating at dobbers, growing up on the mean streets. It ended in blows and a sitting down from both Mammy’s, where tales were told out of school, the friendship never recovered.

I lost 1k on pont alexander a few year back in che…my second lad wont be going to college

Whatever about gambling and losing on a sport, you’d have to be a special kind of simpleton to bet and lose heavily on a horse race.

its much much easier to fix a horse race

When I first started working I did my week’s ages in Hacketts in Sandymount in the space of about an hour. Was a fucking nightmare borrowing money to make it through the week, lesson learned though, never happened again.

The worst i ever felt was when i wasn’t long after starting out punting online i was betting in-play on a darts match involving Phil Taylor and did myself in for about €400-500. I was backing Taylor to win games against the throw but he had a bad night. I think he might have been playing that horrible cunt Robert Thornton but it is probably eight or so years ago i’d imagine. I felt truly mugged off that night as i was chasing my losses.

The biggest i ever lost on a single bet was about €800.

no it fecking isn’t. horses can’t be told what to do.

Shergar, you’re to look like your trying but I want you to go handy at the back of the last.
Ok, gaffer.

And how was Shergar treated for not ‘falling in’?

Not including hedge bets my biggest single loss is probably in the 200-300 region. I can’t think of any recent ones.
NZ in the commonwealth games 7s there a couple of months ago. But 7s has served me very well in the last year so I’ll forgive that one.

I’ve got a bit more risk averse over time.

Biggest hedge of a single bet was €2500 or so on an U21 hurling match in 2010 to hedge the final part of a 9 fold accumulator.

No wonder you gave up the betting. Six grand on a horse!

I got done for 750 sterling when Tommy Stacks Tolpuddle got up to mug the heavily backed Coolmore jolly Solskjaer in the Amethyst Stakes back in 05.
I have made it all back a and lost it all again roughly 100 times since then

Lost around a grand on the first Test of the 2009 Ashes. Lost another 500 or so in a Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan the following week. Knew I was getting a bit impulsive at that stage, so I pretty much stopped betting. I had made more than that in my previous cricket betting (see other thread), so I ended up a few hundred up anyway.
