It’s not easy to hold your tongue / keep your hand away from the keyboard when you’re accused of something you didn’t do. Right, fuck this - I’m going to London.

Though it’s actually no wonder TFK AFC is gone to shit when you see creeps like Rocko and farmerinthecity lining up to muddy the waters.
The England-Ireland game from 1991 was mentioned by gola and, recalling that Houghton chance which was effectively the moment our qualification for Euro ’92 hinged on, I decided to make a little quip about him missing chances in big games. Later on, that utter simpleton twiceasnice97 posted to “ridicule me” for forgetting Stuttgart ’88 and Giants Stadium ’94 but that’s beside the point.

While it may be fair to blame Razor for this miss and denying us a famous victory over the old enemy, it’s unfair to rest failure to qualify solely at his door. Our games with England home and away both ended 1-1. We both beat Turkey home and away, so qualification came down to our respective results against Poland. England could beat the Poles, while we couldn’t. Paul McGrath missed a sitter in Dublin and so the game ended 0-0, while we couldn’t hold onto a 3-1 lead away from home (Packie Bonner being particularly culpable for the equaliser). So leave Houghton alone.
Yes, I know there were other missed opportunities, particularly the Poland game. But my point is that it was England who progressed at our expense it’s natural to look back on the head-to-head games as ultimately being pivotal.
One could also blame Staunton for a horribly inept header for England’s first goal. We dominated that game but that goal we have them was a gift.
Bastards.
There are no such thing as coincidences
It certainly was. I also seem to remember Ray Houghton had a great opportunity to score about five minutes from the end but he sent it narrowly wide.
ChocolateMice, please sort this horrible boil of a mess out.
Very much the unseen & unheard of National team in Ireland, our Cricketers deserve a mention here. Victory over Pakistan in 2007 was a surreal achievement for the boys in a major competition.
To top that, we turned around in 2011 and overturned our much fancied neighbours to secure an historic victory.
Whatever the sport, anytime we beat England should be remembered fondly imo. Special mention for Kevin O’Brien who scored an amazing 113 runs off 63 deliveries to make the result achievable.

Well done chocorentboy, that 3rd clip is a super view of the madness at the end. I even picked out myself, my missus and my young lad running on separately at the end from the mackey
This is wonderful. The line of questioning is astonishing. It’s almost like an interrogation.
That’s incredible (so far). Hostile questioning!
Where did they get that audience from? They’re fucking hammering him on marijuana.
I love the awkward silences as Botham contemplates how to answer the questions.
Some of the quotes are amazing.
“I think a heroin dealer should be…shot.”
“There’s enough loonies like Gaddafi running around in this world who’d be more than happy to drop a bomb on you if they thought they could get away with it.”
Forcing him to deny he eats battery-reared chickens.
“Do you not think it would be better if Mrs. Thatcher would put some of the money she uses on defence into research, and therefore help us out, before she destroys the world?”
God, I’d love to see a Kilkenny hurler put on the spot like that.
