I’d like to pre-register my “like” right now should this come to pass.
Had a lovely ramble up through I suppose what is technically North Fingal (??) and back up this evening.
Woke up to pissing rain here this morning, but had a little bit of business I needed to take care of in Drogheda at some stage today. Said to the Mrs we’d spin down around lunchtime and pack clothes etc for various conditions. The little one fell asleep as soon as we were on the motorway so I said I’d keep going past the Drogheda exit and we went as far as exit 4 I think on the Motorway and nipped off there. After passing a few nondescript places like Lusk, we landed in Skerries which seems a nice spot (had never been there before). With a sailing club etc, there might be a bit of money there. We drove around and then took the road out to Balbriggan, which was a lovely drive. The little one was awake and grand and alert so we stopped up just near the beach in Balbriggan. I was always of the presumption that Balbriggan was a bit of a shithole but it seemed the finest, if a little more rough around the edges than Skerries. There was a small train-themed playground which the little one was delighted with as she’s currently mad about the “choo choos”
Onto Drogheda to conduct some business and then back on the coast road with a detour onto Termonfeckin beach (worth checking out @mickee321, not far from Clogherhead) and a little paddle in the sea. Fine spot. Back up the coast road then to home. A great ramble.
Sounds like a great family outing👍
The Giant’s Causeway is a massive let down
I was expecting very little as everyone said it’s a bit shit, but I quite liked it
Ah it was pal. The best part was that it was a very unplanned day; we just made it up as we went along. The Mrs and myself have a bit of time off here and there during this month so we got down to the zoo on Wednesday and are thinking of heading to Bray Monday (another town I’ve never been in) to head to the aquarium. We’ve also go the green light for another weekend down home in two weeks’ time.
It absolutely lashed rain the day I was there (seems to be always anyway) but I got engaged up the road from it the same day so I suppose it has good memories
Do you know what was shit though. The rope bridge. Nice views on the walk up, but what a pile of bollox. Think it was £18 for the two of us. Some cod.
There’s garden stone features bigger than it.
The countryside around it is nice
Actually taking the coastal road up from Belfast to the giants causeway is the best part of it in my opinion.
Enjoy it all when you can, what age is your daughter? Looking back it was great when they were small and you decided where to go as opposed to the teenage years of all vision grumpy face and no sound🤦♂️
It’s very nice up along there alright. I was pleasantly surprised by the North.
It’s only every now and again you get a glimpse into the reality’s of the place. By and large it could be anywhere on the island. We went through Bushmills in November and the whole town was just like one giant poppy. It was actually hilarious, there was a statue of some WWI soldier or something and it was basically a giant poppy.
I was tempted to get out and get a photo with it it was so stupid. But I was worried they’d see the Southern Reg and violence me in a sectarian manner.
We made a couple of stops on the way up, stopped off in Cushendall for a bit of grub. Food was lovely and it was even better to see a young lad practicing frees on the GAA pitch on his own as you’re going into the village.
Hurling is everything there obviously, the murals really stand out and its remarkable given the villages and towns that surround it.
Kerry is absolutely jointed everywhere this week, the roads are full of ‘D’ reg SVs particularly, you’d notice the dubs accents everywhere. I’ve walked passed already five celebs in the county this week. Firstly Peter Clohessy in a cafe, Barry Gerraghty with his cracker of a wife in the same cafe but the following day, Peter Keane (but I guess that doesn’t count because he is from the county unlike the others), Micháel Lehane from RTE news with two kids and carrying an apple tart under his arm and within about 30 seconds further along the footpath Ronán Mullen on his own. The latter three I spotted today. I still have two days left to spot some more.
20 months next week. Currently loves going in the car so while the mood is good, we’ll strike off
Enjoy mate
I thought it was magnificent, but wasn’t expecting much tbh
Wasn’t even built by a giant. It’s just the result of a natural rock formation
You’ll have to get out more lad,not one of them are celebs.
Lehane is exactly the type of fella that you would see carrying an apple tart under their arm.
