Holidays in Ireland thread (Laois is for prisoners)

That must have been it.

The Galleon dish in the restaurant there is a thing of wonder.

Family rooms are awful. Regular rooms are very nice. Bar is a bit meh.

I thought it was only a grand spot overall. I wouldn’t rush back to it.

That’s not the place with the lad who secretly climbed Everest is it?

It is. You’ve a good memory.
But I don’t think it was a secret.

Can somebody throw some suggestions of what to see in Westport for a few days?

I’m going to do Louisburg and take in Doo Lough, Famine Road and surrounds, what else should I be looking at? No interest in climbing Croagh Patrick this time.

Boat trip in Killary Harbour.

Afternoon/activities in Delphi or killary adventure centre

Bring a wetsuit for this time of year and great pier there to jump off.

Kylemore Abbey worth a saunter around.

Theres a lovely food truck called something Heron. If trading this time of year, great spot to eat and get views of the fjord.

As said above, the boat trip around the harbour is class too.

Achill is a nice place to visit also.

You won’t be visiting anywhere for the next while.

Do the greenway, if you don’t have time to do it all don’t start at the Westport end though

I presume a trip to Matt Molloys goes without saying also

Done Killary during first lockdown in 2020. Lovely trip.
Bit cold today for adventure centre.

Can’t swim so jumping off a pier would only bring unnecessary funeral costs for the family.

Done Killary & Kylemore in 2020. Best €24 I ever spent in fairness, the gardens alone in Kylemore are :ok_hand:

These signs at the start of the Lost Valley near Silver Strand / Mweelrea. Rang this lad today and yesterday. No answer. Drove in, nobody around the farmyard/house. I’m in tourist mode and I was looking forward to a tour.

I remember looking at that place earlier this year when I was in Westport and thinking it sounded like a cod.

Did a couple of separate trips when I was up there, one to Killary Harbour + Clifden and one to Achill. It was early September and the weather was absolutely dire so all I saw was mist. Mayo mugged me off.

Lovely spot but I don’t know what to suggest in January.

The museum of country life is out Castlebar direction and it’s brilliant

Thank you kind sir.

Arnot’s bistro is a lovely restaurant in Westport (not sure if you have kids with you in which case call them first and they would facilitate it)
