And of course there’s this. Can get a leisurely cruise as far as New Ross.
Thanks to all , looks to be plenty to do there @Fagan_ODowd we arecstaying in Dooleys Hotel
Waterford is looking very well and has great pubs and restaurants, you can do a self guided walking tour, they’ve done a great job of marking with plaques the various sites of interest
Valentia Island this weekend. Gorgeous area obviously but any tips would be appreciated
You’ll be right in the middle of it so.
O’Neills The Point Seafood Bar before you get on the Ferry is as nice a seafood restaurant as you’ll find anywhere in Ireland.
Beautiful part of the world on a good day, grim on a bad one.
Get your photo taken with the statue of Micko in Waterville. The Ring of Skellig drive is a savage drive.
Stunning. The Kerry cliffs worth a look
Some nice beaches at Ballinskelligs and Derrynane
Mightnt be too many places open in Valentia yet
Derrynane house worth a visit. Ogham stone on the way up to it and all (though knowing the cute Kerry cunts they could have knocked that up 20 years ago)

The Ring of Skellig drive is a savage drive.
I’d second that. Stop into the chocolate factory.
Not much to do there but I found it a relaxing weekend the time I was there. Best part is go out to the edge of the island on high ground to see where the first telephone cable from Europe to America began and there is a phenomenal view up there of Skellig island. Hopefully you get the weather. Leave the car nearby and walk up to the highest point. There’s a light house on another part of the island that does tours, it’s ok if you like history or that kind of thing. The hotel in town is nice, think there’s only one.
Had a lovely feed in Geoffs a few weeks back . Cracking spot with good atmosphere

Thanks to all , looks to be plenty to do there @Fagan_ODowd we arecstaying in Dooleys Hotel
Myself and mrs barnes were in Waterford last month for a night. Had a lovely Indian in Cafe Goa followed by a few pints in Uisce Beatha listening to a really good blues band. Both yhese spots are less than a 100 metres from Dooleys. I’d second Fagan_ODowd recommendations of Jack Burtchaell’s waliking tours. Waterford is thriving and its great to see.
Make your way up to the slate quarry , a little bit of history and a nice drive.
I wouldn’t be building it up too much now
Did the Curraghmore House tour today. Curraghmore is the seat of the De La Poer/Beresford family since 1176 and the seat of the Marquis of Waterford and the Earl of Tyrone. The estate comprises 40,000 acres and is surrounded by a 10 foot high wall that runs for 13 miles.
The current Lord Waterford was pottering around the courtyard before our tour. The Beresford family are famously mean down these parts though our guide stressed that they had been very good to the locals during the famine and that is why they weren’t burnt out of their house during the War of Independence.
The house is fascinating inside and the tales of misfortune that the family endured over the years were indeed interesting. The house contains a Reuben’s, two Gainsboroughs and numerous portraits by Sir Joshua Reynolds. However I wouldn’t classify the house as magnificent from the outside. It is no Blenheim or Chatsworth.
The tour costs €22 and is worth every penny. There is a basic enough tea room in the courtyard and ample toilet facilities.
All together now will take place in the grounds of Curraghmore in August.
Ye got a nice few hurlers from the Powers and Beresfords
True that.
Do they still have the 40k acres? Tis a lot of land in one ownership?
Would they still have genuine wealth behind them?
