Not in the pipeline at all. It was discussed locally about a greenway, but that fell through, so then it was discussed to open as a freight line, which would potentially link rosslare/wexford direct to limerick and all between. But the last iarnrod eireann review this year never mentioned anything about the line, so it wont even be up for discussion until 2030, and even at that, it may be ignored again.

There’s a noodle and dumpling stall/food truck there that is really good, excellent pizza by the slice as well
Cahir is a lovely town.
There’s a shop at the corner of the square that does the nicest 99 ice cream in the world.

Yeah that is the current plan. We aren’t likely to get screwed by traffic on the way from there to Dublin airport in the mid-afternoon?

You’d can’t guarantee anything with the M50 but you’d be doing yourself a favour if you are off it by 3pm. You’re better off whiling away the hours in the airport rather than in a traffic jam.

Absolutely. I’ve spent the past 9 months making one trip up and down the country most weeks. The M50 is a roulette, even in the summer, but once it gets to late afternoon, it gets riskier
Unfortunately the wife told the rental company that we were going to return the car at 4 because she didn’t realise the flight was so late (10), so we are stuck at the airport for hours regardless.
You should pop in to The Coachmans Inn Pub about a 10 minute walk from the airport for the nicest carvery dinner in Ireland to pass the time.
There’ll be a few auld lads at the bar watching the Racing too.

Has anyone been to Eyeries on the Beara penninsula - Thinking of spending a week there in late August , just myself and the wife -and we are not too young but not ancient

Stayed in Glengarrif before but took a day trip out there. Nice part of the country and lots to do on the Beara Peninsula as regards hiking, cycling, driving around for scenery etc. Not sure what Eyeries is like as regards food but there was pub grub to be got there the day I was there, so unless you’re self catering your choices might be limited. You can head to Allihies an odd day or go to Helen’s Bar inTuosist, one of my favourite pubs in Ireland.
Thanks for the input… Plan would be to base ourselves somewhere central and explore the penninsula by car for the week. So if there was one pub serving food that was plenty . Have driven around there before on a flying visit and liked the look of it.

It’s a lovely part of the world strangely removed from the mainstream tourist trail,
The pub in Ardgroom does nice food, nothing fancy mind, if you want a fancy meal one evening tip into Kenmare,
The fish and chip van at the Dursey island ferry* is still there I believe and on a nice day you couldn’t have better
*not a traditional ferry
