To help keep my EPL sanity- and thanks to Bando- let’s do this the traditional way-

Can all members please nominate who they think are the 5 greatest English bands of all time and a poll of the top 15 will appear to decide this very serious issue… To be followed by Scotland- Ireland-Wales ( I don’t recognize Northern Ireland as a state so go and fuck) With an eventual overall home nations champion to be crowned in the near future.

I’ll Start- The Smiths, The Clash, The Kinks, The Beatles, Pink Floyd.

Define Band for me please - for example would Florence + the Machine be classed as a band?

I’m gonna say no---- That’s essentially Florence, a single artist, and a backing band that changes regularly- A band is made up of prominent members and where two or more members have a decided say over input/output.

I tried posting this in other thread so maybe not relevant in here now:

A serious list of talent there. I’d give an honourable mention to the Pogues too whose first 4 albums were peerless. I’d have Joy Division as streets ahead of the jam also in terms of that post punk era. The only two glaring ommissions I can see are Fleetwood Mac and the Police, both of whom were world famous bands.

My vote goes to Pink Floyd based purely on talent and imagination and pusing the boundaries although they wouldn’t be my favourite on the list. My fav bands of all time are the Clash and Stone Roses
