Very good save by McCrorie there from O’Riley. Some erratic stuff early on from Bernabei again.
Abada has been terrible. Given it away 3/3 possessions after half time & they nearly scored that time.
Kyogo & Maeda on for Oh & Abada.
Shambles by McGregor & Starfelt there. 3-0.
Classic case of lads on the piss all week.
Ah that’s a shambles.
The only surprise is Sakala didn’t smash it into the side netting.
McGregor has been very poor today. Think he’s been marked absent a bit & hasn’t taken much responsibility in midfield.
Not downplaying this & it’s been frustrating & unacceptable, but the team selection opened the door for this occurring. On the one hand, you don’t want to give them life when we’ve had dominance over them all season but it isn’t pivotal & the lads scoring goals for them today are all diddies & they’re going nowhere in the bigger picture if they’re relying on them next season.
We’ve had a couple of games against them that have proven how important our full backs are. The New Year derby was one and this is another. Ralston has been crap to be honest with awful touches but he’s been in the right areas and had one good cross. Bernabei has been thoroughly brutal. He gave the ball away really sloppily before their third goal.
But we depend on them in our build up play and neither of the two today are capable enough. That has allowed them to sit on McGregor much easier. Agreed that he hasn’t played well beyond that but it’s been easy to mark him when Bernabei and Ralston are just getting in the way or hiding. We need those rotations to expose the press when they do try and sit on McGregor.
It’s harsh to condemn players in a nothing game, especially when established players have made errors but Ralston is definitely well behind Johnston and probably ok for that role. Bernabei isn’t ok for his role. He’s far too far off the pace.
Think Bernabei also gave it away cheaply in our own half before the second goal. They went down & won a corner & scored from it. I know the corner allowed a reset & we should still be defending that with more commitment. But it’s been a theme, as you say. They’ve won the ball back countless times in our own half, as we keep trying to build out from the back & the lads you reference haven’t been up to it.
He’s annoyed me all game. He doesn’t even look disappointed when he gives it away and he’s walking back when we get turned over. It’s the polar opposite of what we need and can’t see how we’d play him again. If he was a bundle of energy you’d see something in him
Fuck the huns
