Sloe port. Recipe courtesy of @ironmoth

Nice. Wheres the recipe?

he fortified wine is dead simple, as you’ve the hard work done - i.e. picking and preparing the sloes. Once you strain the gin out, you’ll be left with a load of gin-soaked drupes. Simply give your big jar a clean out, put the drupes back in, add 100g sugar, a bottle of red wine, and 200ml brandy. Some would say you need to put the jar away for 2-3 weeks until the sugar has dissolved before adding the brandy. I’ve done it both ways and cannot tell the difference. Horse it all in at the same time is my recommendation. After about 3 months, run it through a double muslin and bottle it. I haven’t bought a bottle of port in years, and I’ve regularly gotten compliments from visitors.

Hope @ironmoth doesn’t mind me posting this.

The bould fox(es) cleared out my five chickens over a couple of days. Tonight i took a dander across the fields and there two of them were, sitting up close to the windings, couple of fields away, nicely highlighted against the newly cut grass, as aware of me as i was of them. I legged it back to the house and took out the .22 and pushed a few supersonic tounds into a magazine. The kids got a first look at the gun and the wee lassie made a plea un defence of the foxes. Undeterred i skirted the hedges back to within range, foxes still in position. I fired off one shot and one fox legged it halfway across the field before stopping. Another shot and off it headed, gradually decelerating as it went
When i got back the wee lassie was annoyed. I explained that i felt sorry for the fox but that it had taken all our hens. She made the salient observation that we didn’t have any more hens so what was the point in killing the fox. Hard to argue really.

There’s at least two foxes living down the passage across from me. Im not sure how their territory works but they seem to be two distinct families. One a much bigger, older dog fox, the other a smaller, younger fox pictured below.
I frequently see the older one hauling back an unfortunate crow from the nearby rookery.

I’ve a fox casually waltzing through the back yard a couple of times a week.

Seems undeterred by seeing me watching it either. Doesn’t look in good order.

The wee lassie finally learning about revenge.
