Hurling All Stars 2014

Give Henry and tommy an all star and Cody one as well patronising bastards

Sunday Game TOTY:
Gleeson;
P Murphy, Delaney, Hickey;
B Maher, P Maher, Buckley;
Hogan, Fogarty;
Reid, Maher, O’Dwyer;
C Fennelly, Callanan, Dowling.

7 Kilkenny, 6 Tipperary, 2 Limerick.

GAA.ie TOTY:
As above except Ellis for P Maher and Chin for Fogarty.

6 Kilkenny, 5 Tipperary, 2 Limerick, 1 Cork, 1 Wexford.

I wouldn’t have had P Maher on team on the year either.

Lee Chin ahead of Shane McGrath ffs

Exactly, he’ll get it ahead of fogarty.

Nor I, pal.

I thought he was really poor last Saturday. Offered no leadership and only really played for 15 minutes the first day.

Maher was marking Hogan and kept him out of his game. That’s his primary duty. Hogan quoted as saying he wasn’t injured.

Richie McCarty has to be in it- It’s a farce if not- Everyone lording Callanan and Richie beat him up a stick. JJ was beaten tits up by Seamus in both games.

Hurling men would pick Richie. The media will pick JJ. The final always counts.

Ok then, time to have a punt.

  1. Darren Gleeson (Tipperary)
  2. Paul Murphy (Kilkenny)
  3. JJ Delaney (Kilkenny)
  4. Seamus Hickey (Limerick)
  5. Brendan Maher (Tipperary)
  6. Mark Ellis (Cork)
  7. Cillian Buckley (Kilkenny)
  8. Lee Chin (Wexford)
  9. Richie Hogan (Kilkenny)
  10. TJ Reid (Kilkenny)
  11. Patrick Maher (Tipperary)
  12. John O’Dwyer (Tipperary)
  13. Shane Dowling (Limerick)
  14. Seamus Callanan (Tipperary)
  15. Richie Power (Kilkenny)

This is what I think will be picked by the panel. Certainly 13 of them will be anyway.

I think that’s spot on, Murphy should edge the corner back spot over Barrett by virtue of the fact that kk won it out.

For contrast, here’s a stab at the best team in the country if everyone was fit:

Gleeson
Cahill
McCarthy
Hickey
B Maher
Rushe
P Maher
Hogan
Chin
Reid
Maher
Callanan
Conor McGrath
Canning
Bubbles

Struggling to fit in Paul Murphy, C Fennelly, McDonald, Galvin, Hannon.

Besides Hogan there was no other consistent performer at midfield- You could have any of Chin/McGrath/Jimbob/Kearney in there. No way would I have Callanan over Dowling- If it came down to a battle you’d want Dowling every time.

best team in country would include Harnedy

he won’t get an All Star - All Stars are to reward outstanding individuals from All Ireland finalists and more particularly winners with one or two others who had an exceptional year or caught the eye

Yeah agree. I think Chin at his best is better than the others though. I’m picking it based on right now. I think Dowling finally ‘arrived’ this year. If he maintains and improves fitness he will be a better player than Callanan in two years time. Reckon Hannon will be at the ‘best 15’ level too.

I would have said so last year. Who would you drop from the selection above for him?

Dungeon

Trying to think who else from Clare to fit in. Actually Galvin for Chin, that was an error. I’d pick Podge every time too, but…
