Galway obviously. I’d say Ulster will nominate Antrim, Leinster Kilkenny and Munster is much of a muchness
Traditional mindset, love it
Would save us a year of the Munster championship too and having to listen to all the shite that goes with it
Leitrim have had more recent inter-county success than Galway so they’d be one choice.
Dunno, could see Galway bringing an objection straight to Leinster Council if that’s the case.
The championship should be run off between Limerick, Tipperary, Kilkenny and Cork. Nobody else would be within an asses roar of winning it anyway.
As dual citizens there is a high possibility of Galway being nominated by both Connacht and Leinster councils. We could well be looking at an all Galway hurling final
They’d still manage to lose.
Straight knock out provincial championships.
Winners of Munster and Leinster play in the AI final.
I’d be amazed if any games are played in June, or July either.
The GAA would want to be very careful here. They’ll run two straight knockout championships and everyone will love them and the club fixture crisis will be resolved and it’ll be the end of their money spinning groups
the only way the way circumstances are shaping up - massive crowds, flaking provincial finals
if we are so lucky that this can even happen
Des Cahill has already suggested exactly that. No matter what temporary format may be produced there will be typical reactionary behaviour with the benefits of the current format forgotten.
What are the benefits of the current format?
And Dublin could be beaten in a one off game which will certainly not help. And maybe a novel pairing in Hurling AI like the 90s only without Offaly.
Primarily more matches for players and supporters, a fairer and more balanced championship, and increased opportunity to promote the sport.
The current format supports the team with the biggest budget. It gives the smaller counties No chance. You could sense the novelty had quickly worn off last year.
You’re a fan of the round robin league format?
Yes. Pure knockout is an outdated concept for the showpiece competition.
There has never been as many genuine contenders as there is now, that in part is due to the current format.
There was a novelty factor to it first year in 2018 but last years Munster Championship illustrated the serious flaws in the round robin structure. It was dreadful. A succession of one sided matches, played at challenge match intensity and any number of dead rubbers. Waterford and Clare would have considerably smaller playing number numbers and are very unsuited to the playing every week blitz format. Tipperary beat Waterford and Clare by 18 and 13 points. Limerick beat them by 20 and 18 points.
