Hurling League 2018

Somebody’s drunk in a cloak already…

Good point

There is nothing wrong with winning they league as long as you don’t peak at that stage .

You’re unable to deal in anything other than spoofery because you’re an obvious spoofer, pal.

And you, of all posters, are the one that is clearly by far the most desperate for their views to be validated across multiple topics on this forum.

It’s embarrassing.

2013 was a freak year and should never be used as a guide .

Ya they seem like a team who would be served well be lots of games. As I mentioned there is the need to integrate the obviously talented NaP lads too.

Not as simple as people thing. Funny enough even harder when winning

On the other hand you could say that the Clare v Cork relegation play-off in 2013 was a key game in the development of both of those teams over the rest of that year.

Galway won the league last year and won the All-Ireland.

Waterford’s league win in 2015 was a key point of development for them as they rose to be contenders over the next three championship seasons.

Clare’s 2016 win didn’t prove to be a pointer to them progressing but Waterford reaching that final and losing by a point in a replay was, like the previous year, another stage in their development as contenders.

You’d be foolish to read too much into the league but you’d be foolish to entirely disregard it either.

Waterford did not go on to win the all Ireland

Would agree with that, thing with Limerick is we’re coming from a shocking 3 years at senior level while also being very competitive at underage level. The more games this group can get against the top teams in March the better. Looking forward towards the summer, getting the right balance between our natural direct game and giving our talented young forwards a chance with favourable distribution along with injuries clearing up is key. Na Piarsaigh back will be great too once the league’s over.

First game v Tipp at home is huge…win it and the summer opens up…big if, but its plausible if we’re smart on the sideline, pick the right players and persue this more intelligent game plan on the field.

And your point is?

Those two league campaigns in 2015/16 played a significant part in establishing them as a team that believed they could compete at the top level, which they have done since 2015.

Tipperary’s two league campaigns in 2008 which they won, and 2009, when they ran Kilkenny very close in the final, were a key part of that team’s development.

Of course it doesn’t always follow that the league proves to be a pointer to how teams do in the championship but there are loads of examples where it does or where you can pick out something that proved to be a significant point of development for a team.

Even, say, Limerick’s two finals in 2005 and 2006, while they didn’t prove to be a pointer for the championship in those two seasons, were a benefit to their development in eventually reaching the 2007 All-Ireland final.

Clare’s 1995 league campaign, in which they lost the final, helped them in the championship that year.

Cork winning the league in 1998 was the foundation stone on which that team built their rise.

Tipperary in 2001 won the league and then won the All-Ireland.

Galway in 2010 didn’t win the All-Ireland after winning the league but they were mighty close to at least getting there, and even their relegation play-off win over Dublin in a replay 2012 was important for them that year.

Same in football. Loads of examples.

Lads it isn’t rocket science. Limerick have a lot done and are flying it(good), cork have a lot done and are struggling(not good), waterford have little done and are struggling (not so bad), tipp have little done and are flying it (excellent) etc. you’ve to take each team on their merit and where they are at in their development.
