Padraig Walsh especially was imperious in that and their whole spine was. Even for the goal Conor McDonald got off him he still did everything right. Get your full back position sorted out and everything flows from that.
Kilkennyâs spine suddenly looks frightening again and theyâve uncovered a few rabbits out of hats. Never heard of John Donnelly and Bill Sheehan before today but they looked very good. Johnjo Farrell wonât be getting much of a look in anymore.
Probably a reality check was needed for Wexford. A mini win streak over Kilkenny has infused them with confidence and maybe there was a tiny bit of complacency today or maybe thats the wrong word to use but certainly Kilkenny wanted to restore the natural order. Davy will be measured on his championship record. They look better placed this year to mount a better challenge. The league has been a success and were entitled to have an off day and today was one of them. I wouldnt rip up game plans just yet.
Donnelly was in the half forward line on their U21 team last year and I think Sheehan was in the corner if my memory is correct. When you add in Richie Leahy and whoever else was on that team, it shows you that the level of talent coming through in Limerick is very high given they defeated Kilkenny so easily in that final.
I had a typically enjoyable 30 hours in the north east over Friday and yesterday, but arrived back in Dublin yesterday evening in time for the hurling, and then onto Wexford this morning. The Windsor in Dundalk does a more than passable pub lunch if youâre ever out and about there. Itâs been a very solemn day after that massacre in Wexford Park though.
Conor McDonaldâs goal yesterday was an early goal of the year candidate. The ability to catch it and score under such heavy marking was excellent.
That missed tap over 21 yard free for Wexford was absolutely criminal.
Weâre a one man band. If TJ gets injured our season is over. Some of the younger lads have shown very well but this year feels like a year of transition and itâs too soon to expect meaningful impact in the later stages of the championship. Success for us this year is a semi final appearance. I canât see past Tipp as AI winners at the moment.
Mick Church will be absolutely thrilled with this League campaign.
Blood loads of young lads and get a proper look at them while resting the old order.
Make the knockout stages so he can keep the oversized panel intact for training sessions.
League Final below in NP, KK to win well & make the culling all the easier for Mick.
Dampen down expectations and in reality prove to overzealous idiots that League in fact means sfa.
