I think for the sake of accuracy we should refer to todays encounter as South Africa A vs Ireland [& Australia-ish]
Eoin Morgan in batting against Ireland.
Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Sensational figures from TJ; 1-14 from his 4 overs.
England 36/3 after 8 overs. Great start for us but the pitch looks awful.
Pietersen gone!
Sky Sports apologising for Niall O’Brien’s language behind the stumps.
Ah lovely.
Does our 17 year old lad have grey hair?!
Super effort in the field, Johnston capping his fine bowling performance with a direct hit run out on the second last ball. 121 to win. Unlikely given how fragile the Irish batting line-up has looked of late and the state of this pitch, but there’s an outside chance. 90 minutes or so of rain would be very welcome.
Eoin Morgan is a batsman of serious quality. If he was still playing for Ireland… (Joyce would also be welcome back.)
Eng 120-8. Not sure if thats a realistic target for Ireland to get, need a big inings from someone to make it happen. Super bowling and fielding from Ireland again today.
Second rain delay. 14/1 off 21 balls. Stirling fell to a magnificent catch by Lumb on the boundary off Bresnan. Niall O’Brien responded with a couple of lovely fours (especially the second one, lofted down the ground) off Widebottom. Covers are off according to Cricinfo, but no start time yet. Overs will certainly be lost, which should give us a better chance.
Match abandoned. No result and Ireland go out. This is devastating, a clear anti-Irish conspiracy. I feel cheated and all Irish people should also feel cheated. First the six counties and now this. Bastards.
That’s an utter shame. All it needed was one or two of our bhoys to play a big innings, like Niall O’Brien’s against Pakistan in CWC '07. Gutted for the lads.
We were looking close under DL if the rain had stopped for 4 overs (or something). Fuck it anyway. Best of luck to South Africa A and Eoin Morgan, though as Bandage says, wrong, wrong, wrong.
Great stuff from Ireland. Dockrell’s last over was sensational.
A real pity the rain denied them their chance at taking the old enemy. Well done to them all the same.
ah ffs how can this bullshit be classified as sport, a bit of fucking rain and the contest is called off and ruled a no result. could they not have played on in rain, played the next day, played at night, played another day?
shambolic to go to a world cup and play one game and go out.
cricket is not a sport.
Is there a facebook group I can join to voice my outrage over this travesty?
Correction - cricket is a sport.
T20 is not, I repeat, not, cricket.
No, but you can follow HB’s tweets about it.
Instead of having one group with say, 1000 members, I’d prefer if there were 500 groups with an average of 2 members each.
clappity clap clap clap. surely this cancelling games cos of rain has to stop in this day and age? How come Wimbledon can just defer their games till the next day but cricket can’t?
What happened last night was a fairly big lost opportunity for cricket in this country
what a joke of a sport where you get knocked out of the world cup for no other reason than it rained the day you were supposed to be playing.
cricket? fuck away out of it
I vowed not to watch any more of this after being utterly sickened by the manner of Ireland’s elimination but I’ve been drawn to watch a bit of Eoin Morgan batting here; he’s just in. England are already through but want to win to avoid Australia in the semi-finals, while New Zealand need to win to qualify for the last four.
Got involved with England at 11/8 earlier. Then they had a cracking start so went very short but this is a worrying little collapse. They’ll need to consolidate for a while before attacking again near the end.
