If the manager of the team you supported resigned tomorrow to take the Ireland job who would you realistically take in their place?
For Celtic I think I’d be looking for Mowbray. Hibs had become a bit of a shambles before he took over with Franck Sauzee making a right mess of things and Bobby Williamson not doing much better.
He’d already done some decent stuff with Ipswich. Hibs improved hugely under Mowbray. They played lovely football, got a load of young guys in who linked up very well. He kept them up with Hearts for most of his time despite having nothing to spend.
Got West Brom to the playoffs last season and he has them doing very well this year too. Again they play cracking football and all of this is done without much of a budget. Indeed he sold Koumas, McShane, Curtis Davies etc and presumably(?) spent way less than he got in.
Not a guaranteed success, no manager is, but Mowbray’s done very well now at two clubs in two different leagues without much money. And encouragingly this is by playing decent football, not just grinding out results with long ball tactics. Celtic man at heart and I’d say he’d love to manage us one day.
For Sporting Fingal I think I’d take Roddy Collins. Bring a bit of much needed publicity to the club.
fair play to you for supporting sporting fingal.
watching a game in morton is an experience .
I would hope roddy the plastere will never again be gainfully employed in the irish football business. hopefully liam buckley will have better sense
Mowbray’s not a bad shout but I’d prefer him to cut his teeth a bit more at the level he’s at now before I’d consider him a viable option for Celtic. I’d plump for Guus Hiddink - he’s an outstanding record throughout his career and has proven form at club and international level.
