We did Mangerton yesterday
Up down
Around
Across
Down through fairly rough terrain
Then a good walk
5 and a half hours plus
Good pace. About 35 of us
18 km
Twas gorgeous but cold up there
Icicles on the vegetation etc
What a beautiful country we have

Down around there is hard beat alright. You get a clear day on Carrauntoohill and it’s a rival for anywhere

Minus 8 real feel yesterday
But feckin fab
Zoom in on the steel you’ll see the icicles
Even had a light flurry of snow

Gang I’m with are like baboons going up,
One lady’s near 80
I was behind her all the day
Couldn’t pass her
Different fitness altogether

I did 15 /16 km on the treadmill the day before
Then a walk
And I’d consider my self fit
By feck going up a mountain etc at a serious pace sorted my ego ref fitness out,
These feckers are tackling the Atkas mountains next week or so,
Some been to Nepal etc climbing
A climber’s/ hikers mostly

It’s a different kind of fitness. I can’t run for shit. But I’m a good hiker. Id hike all day

Hard to balance
I don’t really run
Highest elevation
7.2 to 7.6 km per hour
But I keep going

I can hike but not as good at it as I’d like,
The group I go with are really fit,
One fella I nearly gave a dawk to
Actually jogged past me going up carontihill( excuse misspelling)
My heart was coming out of my chest and this older guy nonchalantly whizzed past me

Chatting to him later on- he can’t run on road
Or do gym work/
It’s mad stuff

It is the nicest city in Ireland by far.

Could you recommend a good cheap place to stay central enough to Funchal.
It looks expensive over there…

We got a deal to stay in a fancy enough spot. It’s gone pretty dear in last few years.

It’s very walkable (though extremely hilly) so anywhere reasonably close will do ya

My knees are gone and the other lad is on the thinners.
So need to pick wisely and prudently.

The beaches don’t look up to much so a good pool would be vital.
Certainly not the ideal place for us but it’s time to shit or get off the pot, with the flights from Shannon now and all that.

I always wanted to go but I don’t want it to turn into a holiday from hell for everybody else.
So any other recommendations from yourself or somebody else would be very welcome.
