Mid rock shortly after 9am this morning at low tide- chicken soup for the soul.
@Juhniallio what is donabate beach like? It looks to be huge. Assume it wouldn’t be half as busy as the velvet strand on a good day?

Decent beach I think. Fairly flat. I never spent much time on it but didnt like that you could drive onto it. Pretty sure you’re not allowed anymore. Cant be as busy though. It’s a fair oul walk from donabate even.
Glenade valley this morning
I’ve never seen one of these before, we had a serious clatter of them around the place this morning. Would any of you know the name for them? (I already suspect they’re some class if butterfly…)
The little ones are less than half the size of the big ones with the eyes on their wings, but I’m guessing they’re the same species given the purple colour
Top fella is a peacock (butterfly) and the bottom fella is just a common butterfly, a red admiral I think.
It’s a sad state of affairs when a lad has to write butterfly under a picture of a butterfly for fear of the internet abuse he’d get were it omitted.
The bottom one you see all the time in Monaghan. Top one is a bit odd but as Treaty says, looks like it might be a red admiral.
Edit: this is very sad, Glenshane has never seen a butterfly before.
I’ve seen a hape of red admirals, these are smaller and have purple edges to their wings…maybe they’re some class of sub class of red admirals.i suppose it’s sad whatever way you look at it
I’ve seen more Peacocks than Red Admirals this year, which is unusual.
Was at exact same spot Friday morning. Choppy enough but grand for swim
Where did you start from
Jb Malone car park at Lough Tay. It was handy enough as I didn’t have whole heap of time.
Knockfierna ?
Yes. A lovely morning for it
Incredible
