@Jimmy Mc Nulty - did you ever get to the root of that groin / hip problem we were discussing on TFK AFC 2013/13 Season Thread last March/April? Iāve been forced to retire. I can barely walk.
No, I never did @Bandageā¦I did take a break for a couple of months however and it had eased considerably when I returned. I can still feel something there when Iām stretching etc, but by and large it doesnāt restrict me when playing soccer or running.
I am strongly considering going for an MRI to find out what it is for once and for all, two of my brothers have had hernia ops so wouldnāt be surprised to hear itās something like that rather than a groin tear. Iām deeply saddened to learn of your retirement btw.
On a different note, Iāve been doing a bit of running recently to get back in shape, not huge distances or anything, 2-3 miles, approx 3 times per week. My Achilles area has been feeling quite tender lately, should I cease activity completely for a few days, or am I safe enough to carry on running them distances and frequencies without fear of my Achilles snapping or doing any other damage?
cease running jimmy. achilles injuries are not to be messed about with. Take a week off.
Cheers for the advice, Fenway, been doing all my running on the road so probably taking its toll.
Keep running @Jimmy Mc Nulty. Probably just a niggle that will leave as quickly as it came. Up your speed to shake it off. Really pound those pavements.
Could be linked to weakness in your calves. You should do a lot of eccentric raises before commencing your running. Your weight could be a factor also.
Would it be worth getting a bit of GA done?
will ya look at the big dawgā¦a weekend in the saddle in Budapest and now heās talking of retirement due to problems groin area!! ā¦
Bandage retired weeks ago, it was a hugely emotional day for TFKAFC but nothing lasts forever. Sadly due to Rockoās negligence the youth system was abandoned a la Kevin Keegan at Newcastle and there is nobody to replace him leading to the end of TFKAFC.
Settle down, please. Thatās the second or third time youāve made immature references, @Bisto. Itās not what I expect on TFK.
This is neither a new relationship nor a new injury, pal. I can still remember the exact twist on the hallowed Sandymount Park turf when I thought āfuck Iām in trouble hereā. But I battled against the pain valiantly, even stupidly, for months.
Anyway, our physio Shezza says Iāve a torn hip cartilage. Itās not good at all really.

iām glad youāve found love palā¦you deserve itā¦ torn hip cartilage is a pain alriteā¦never goes awayā¦you can be fine for months and then one day you will be walking to the shop and the hip just gives inā¦i found it tough in the winter when I used to walk from the DART to workā¦i used to have to stop for a bitā¦now I walk from the carpark to work which has made a huge differenceā¦
Homelessness has its advantages
Cheers Giloppy, the weight was certainly a factor at the start but after knocking off over 2 stone, so not so much now.
Good improvement on the hamstring between Monday and today, but still far from free moving. Was able to drive to work this morning without too much discomfort. Hoping to start physio tomorrow or Friday.
Hip MRI scan and x-ray completed this morning. Physio and rehab ongoing for the past month. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I face an anxious 24-48 hour wait to see if I require a hip replacement* at the tender age of 32.
*or some type of hip surgery.
Did you have to go into that machine for the MRI?
Did you find it unsettling?

Yeah, I was in the machine but I found it relatively grand and not overly claustrophobic. They were scanning my hip so I was shoved right up into the machine and I was able to see out at the far end (glass tubing). I would have been totally covered and enveloped by darkness if they were scanning my shoulder or somewhere higher up the body. It lasted around 20 minutes. No choice of music though - I had to make do with Classic Hits 4FM.

We really are brothers in arms these days, mateā¦ My hip/lower back is fucked also and if my physio session doesnāt do anything for me tomorrow iām gonna go to an osteopath and then probably MRI and surgery. @TheUlteriorMotive will love this, the prick.
You continue to ignore me on this issue and it is hurtful but I will say it to you for the last time-go and get a fucking MRI scan done and they will confirm the diagnosis I made at least 6 months ago. All of your symptoms indicate to me that you have at least one if not two bulging discs, somewhere between L4 and L7.
