Internet Problems

My laptop at home is playing up at the moment. I have Clearwire broadband (not wireless) and everything is connected as before but I am getting a ‘page cannpot be displayed’ notice all the time when I try to go in…

The computer has that Spyware virus for some time so I don’t know if that is having an effect…

Can anyone help?

Is that the extent of the error message “Page cannot be displayed” on the white background?

Or do you get other messages like a dialog box telling you something is wrong.

Do you have a router?

If so you can see if you can connect to the router so you can see whether it’s the connection between the computer and the router or between the router and the internet that’s causing the problem.

In any event go into Start _ Control Panel _ Networks/Network Connections and see if that’s showing that you’re connected to the Internet or it might tell you that there’s a problem with the hardware in which case you’ll need to look at that.

The other thing you can do from that menu is setup a new Internet Connection and go through that wizard and see if a fresh attempt to connect to the Internet works, in case the settings were altered/corrupted from your existing connection.

Could be a spyware problem but I’d say that’s unlikely - usually that sort of stuff just hijacks your connection to bring you to specific sites and to install stuff on your pc, it shouldn’t disable your physical connection to the Internet.

Yeah - that’s the extent of the error message.

I clicked into the icons in the bottom right corner and it said that there was a problem with my connection. It had a bottom to repair so I clicked it and iot said ‘renewing IP address’ before another message came up saying that it was unable to renew it. It then said that there was a problem with the connection and to contact the network administrator.

The thing is though that when I plug in the modem it lights up as it always does and there is a green light at the back of the computer to show that there is a connection.

Anyway thanks for the tips - I’ll do that this evening but sounds like a network problem to me…

I have Clearwire too Farmer and the same has happened to me. Thought it was a problem with my laptop but it must be Clearwire themselves

If nothing works this is always worth a try. Knock off the router. Turn it back on. Restart it through the router control and then bobs your uncle.

Nice one Pikeman.

Well that solves it. Who do you contact to sort it out though? Do you go back to the shop where you got it?

Must have to ring the Clearwire lads themselves I’d say to find out what the story is.

Farmer, one thing to note is that you should print out the advice and suggestions on this thread in work. Obviously there’s a risk you might think to yourself, ‘I’ll check those instructions rock, pikeman and flano gave me at home later’ but of course you don’t have internet at home to begin with. It’s almost like a vicious circle in a way. Good luck with it anyway.

Thought of that already Band Aid - thanks for reminding me though…

Probably no need to print the thread from Bandage’s reminder on though. Concentrate on the first part which has the advice.

Sounds like you’ll need to ring Clearwire when you get home though. You should be able to find their number on the net. To further avoid vicious circles, this step is also best taken before you get home.

Pleasant surprise this evening - internet working again!

Don’t mention it Farmer.

Still wasn’t working for me when I checked it last at 9 last night. Baxtards

Why dya think its a problem at their end?

Farmer had same problem and they were talking about Clearwire problems on the radio yesterday too.
So from that Watson, I deduced it’s a problem from their end.

Yeah but Farmer is sorted now.

You’re some oddball Flango - it was obviously a Clearwire problem and it’s probably been fixed for some parts of their network.

True I am an oddball.

I stick with trusty reliable Eircom. Anytime I have a problem with my connection I fix it myself. Never any issues with their service. What kind of show are Clearwire running, maybe they could cal themselves Nowire, or Badwire or IntermittentISPwire

Or Flanowire

Well aren’t you great…

Don’t answer ‘yes’ to that by the way…
