I will insist on the correct spelling of McClean or we’ll have another embarrassing ‘Trapp’ style scenario on here.
Cox is the likeliest option to be left out I feel, which is harsh and he’s came in and performed well for us. There’s no chance he’d leave Doyle out but he really should. I can’t see Lawrence making it, a few months back he wasn’t even making the Portsmouth team, was he even included in the Estonia squads? I’d say there is no hope of him going.
Another faux pas by Rocko after the McGeouch/McGeough incident.
Point taken Bandage.
Why do you think he’s the likeliest out of interest? Wasn’t he picked ahead of Long recently? Trap doesn’t really seem to give a shite about English club form.
Keith Andrews has 9 goals for Ipswich this season. I remembered him getting a couple here and there but didn’t realise it was so much. Anyone know what type of goals they’ve been? Headers from set pieces, freekicks, long shots etc? Or a mix of everything
Long was named in the starting line-up ahead of Cox for one of the qualifying games only for to be kept out by an injury. Since then he has missed matches with some niggly injuries. When it’s a tricky decision club form will come into it and there will be a lot of media pressure on Trapattoni to bring Doyle.
Very much in the Frank Lampard mould from the few I’ve seen. Generally arriving on to a loose ball from 15-20 yards out.
You mean Long right? While Doyle has gone off the boil at Club level I would put that down to the poor management at Club level than anything else. Long could be vulnerable but it has been mentioned before about his versatility and possiblity of doing a job out wide or even leading the line on his own. I’ve alwas like the cut of him but its going to be tight up there for numbers.
Must say its nice to have some sort of striking options for a change.
When both were in the most recent squad, I believe Cox was brought on before Long wasn’t he? The game above you mentioned was the one where Cox got man of the match I think and in my opinion put him ahead of Long in Traps eyes.
Also for what it’s worth, Daniel McDonnell has just tweeted this
Trap spoke in more detail about McClean/Wilson to daily newspapers.Very interesting. Also the Ballon D’or. Buy a paper tomorrow!

Or just wait for it to be added tot he Independent.ie website tomorrow morning.
Yes I meant Long there. Doyle should not be going and I wouldn’t put it down to poor management, he’s far too bulky compared to what he was two or three years ago, his big bottom being a prime example of this and it’s severely affected his mobililty. Walters and Long are of a similar mould to Doyle and both are much better at this present time. It’s a shame Stokes hasn’t been afforded more chances under Trapattoni.
You cant deny Stokes done himself no favours in Traps eyes, he cant have any complaints in the same way as other players have blotted their copybooks also.
You can’t absolve the Wolves management of the downturn in Doyles form and change in body shape. The style of football they play almost demanded it.
You’re correct Mac. Cox started ahead of Long against Armenia where he was awarded MOTM. Long was injured for the Estonia match.
Rocko please elaborate as to why Meyler could be included. I didn’t really understand your post on the last page. Cox is very likely to go imo and rightly so. Totti I don’t think Trap will pay much attention to media clamor for anyone.
Not really. A player’s body is his own responsibility, two years ago Doyle was playing very well for Wolves when he was noticeably slimmer and less bulkier. Now he is playing terribly, as for Stokes, he did himself no favours but I feel he was slighted at being so far down the pecking order that it didn’t matter how well he did. He should have been given more chances before then I feel.
In a very close and tough decision I think he will look at all the factors.
Did Stokes not pull out of a squad one summer as he was feeling tired? No one to blame only himself in my opinion.
I would imagine Wolves didnt object to the changes as they felt they would suit what they were doing. Lets just say perhaps both were at fault. Have felt Doyle has been rushed back from injury far too many times by Wolves anyway, something else that hasn’t helped him. Just to be clear, I dont believe he’s the best striker ever to pull on a pair of football boots, just think the move to Wolves hasnt helped him very much, finances apart.
As for Stokes, like everyone else, you wait your chance at this level, especially with managers who dont make many changes in any game, friendly or competitive. Its not that tough a life, swallow it if you wish to play for your country and dont take the hump.
Gibson, Walters, Wilson are among others who have had questionable withdrawals. I don’t think Stokes would have had much of a look in whether or not he withdrew from that squad.
