Ireland politics (Part 1)

You ā€œpulled me upā€

Quit with the primary school teacher act, mate

Your brain seems affected by all those lines

This is just your inference. I find Coppinger to be a strongly opinionated, annoying person. Itā€™s nothing to do with the fact that she is a woman that annoys me. I donā€™t want to put words in his mouth but for you to say that that there is no other conclusion to Farmer finding Coppinger annoying and self-serving is he is doing so because sheā€™s a woman is patently bullshit. A lot of people find strongly opinionated people to be annoying because they often display characteristics such as not being able to see things from other peopleā€™s perspective, always thinking that they are right regardless of the subject, always having to have the last word on matters, always feeling the need to declare themselves winners in arguments. Pretty much everybody on this forum, apart from glas, from what I can see finds you to be incredibly strongly opinionated and annoying. And itā€™s not because of your gender. And not because you kick peopleā€™s heads in  when they try to bully you either.

Explain what his objection was so

Coppinger was spot on in her comments - even @Juhniallio has admitted that

What explains the objection to her comments so?

Women in the public eye, especially in politics, generally get a much rougher time of it in terms of abuse than men

Compare the treatment of Lorraine Clifford Lee to the treatment of Noel Grealish here

Both made deeply reprehensible comments

Yet while Clifford Lee is rightly heavily criticised, Grealish gets off effectively scot free

I continually refer to the treatment of Hillary Clinton because there itā€™s completely undeniable that she was the victim of a smear campaign which was unprecedented in history, and the tone of misogny was unmistakable

Margaret Thatcher was personally vilified much more than she would have been had she been a man - and also because she did not conform to the internalised views most men have of how a woman should act - and I say that as somebody who despised her politics and engaged in personal vilification of her myself

In my view women in the public eye are victimised and vilified more because they are seen by men to be more vulnerable and malleable, and because men are indulging their internalised misogyny to try and bully those they believe can be cowed down

Grealish doesnā€™t give a fuck. Heā€™s an independent and reckon this will win him votes. Lee has to tow the party line.

That doesnā€™t explain the different reactions

Both are politicians, both have a duty not to victimise and vilify ā€œthe otherā€ because thatā€™s racism

In my view, itā€™s self evident that one is being held to a higher standard of behaviour than the other, particularly on this forum

Thatā€™s misogyny

How do you expect me to do that?

Thatā€™s probably fair.

You wot m8?

Ah shtap, man. From an Irish perspective, any man who behaved towards the issues affecting our island during her tenure would be strongly vilified. Same for towns and cities outside of London who were adversely affected by her economic policies.

In my view, thatā€™s quite the box to put about 3.5 billion people into but thatā€™s your right to hold that view.

Iā€™m not sure whether it mattered if Lee was male or female. The fact that sheā€™s a member of FF meant that she was always going to get more grief than GreaIish. I suspect that if Grealish was a member of a main stream party, the knives would have been a lot sharper.

You havent got a clue. Grealish had news reports about it and half of Twitter vilifying him. Clifford Lee has got a fucking pass from many news outlets cos of who her fella is. The media have discriminated in her favour by not running with this story in many cases and not pushing it. She has had positive discrimination. Not because of what sex she is but of because who she is. Pure Irish nepotism.

I think most men have internalised misogyny to varying degrees and I say that as somebody who definitely had it and possibly still has it to some extent

Many men refuse to even contemplate that may have such or that it exists

@Juhniallio is one

I doubt that

Leo Varadkar engaged in his own dog whstling racism last week and got away scot free

Mainstream male right wing figures throughout the world are openly racist and they are celebrated for it, including on here

Party affiliation really has no impact on whether somebody considers racist comments acceptable or not

Racist comments are racist comments

Clifford Lee will be rightly routed at the polls

Grealish will top the poll easily

Grealish has had more coverage because he made his comments in the Dail, not on Facebook years ago, therefore they are automatically way more newsworthy

In terms of not having a clue, have a look at yourself

Internalised and unknowing cluelessness you could call it

Keep trying to pat yourself on the back that you know what youā€™re talking about, it doesnā€™t make it any more true than it already isnā€™t

But it might you give you something to do in that hotel room at least

look, we all now white people are better than people of colour. Itā€™s not PC but itā€™s the truth and we all know and think it. Just give over now with your nonsense, no one is buying it.

So your argument started that she was much more severely treated by ā€˜coverage.ā€™ And yet youā€™ve no comment on the fact that because her husband is political editor of the Irish mail the story has been let go? And youā€™re telling me I know nothing?. Good man Sid. You jumped in with two feet as usual. I suppose itā€™s hard to keep up with real life when the hamsters in your head are running full speed!

Sure have a look at the amount of female MPs of relatively young age who are stepping down from the House of Commons

That isnā€™t a coincidence

Who gets the most hate mail and abuse in the Hosue of Commons, Diane Abbott

But sure of course her sex and her colour have absolutely nothing to do with that, or something

The story is all over the news, mate

Have a look around, all that time with your head up your arse canā€™t be good for your vision

Can you tell me how you expect each of them to fare in their next elections

That should give us a guide as to the respective reactions to their racist comments

Seems like a lot of lads here have being crying out for a hero like Noel Grealish all along, who would have thunk it

Youā€™ll be looking to have darkies in the Dail next.

You have to hand it to Grealish in one sense, he called his support base and they called back in spades

Clare elected Bhamjee .

There was an Indian amongst the cowboys

Your man Peter Casey did all the hard lifting , it is only waiting for someone to take it up a notch.

You racist
